Dr Paul Warden-Hutton

Paul holds a B.Biomed.Sc. majoring in Chemistry and Biochemistry. His B.Biomed.Sci.(Hons) year was his introduction to applied research and he continued his research in the completion of a Ph.D. in Biophysics in which he performed spectroscopic, computational and informatic studies of the prion protein. In 2003, Paul started in the Intellectual Property Profession when he joined a Japanese Patent Attorney Firm in Osaka. Paul provided advice to Japanese & non-Japanese IP Owners in relation to Japanese, US & EP Patent Law. With his physics, computational and biochemistry backgrounds, Paul worked in both the Firm's Information Technology and Life Sciences and teams. Paul is a Registered Australian and New Zealand Patent & Trade Mark Attorney with a Masters in Intellectual Property Law. Paul's practice includes drafting, prosecution and litigation of Engineering, Spectroscopic, Medical Imaging, Sensor-technologies, Clean Technology, Mechanical, Computer Software, Biophysical and Material Science matters and Plant Breeder Rights before the Australian and New Zealand Patent Offices. With his background in applied research, Paul's work covers most technology areas including pneumatics, medical devices, chemical processing, anaesthesia/sleep monitoring devices, safety devices, building materials and business methods. Paul is a Member of the Asian Patent Attorney Association, The Intellectual Property Society of Australia and New Zealand, The Royal Australian Chemical Institute and a Fellow of The Institute of Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys of Australia. With a PhD in Medicine from Monash University, Anabela has extensive industry experience and runs her own technology commercialisation business. Anabela's previous experience includes the General Manager, East Coast operations Ipernica Ltd, Senior Consultant at PricewaterhouseCoopers and Commercial Business Development Manager at Monash Commercial. Anabela Correia's expertise includes successful management of biotechnology companies, management of technologies from early stage development through to global commercialisation, capital sourcing from government and private sectors, grant writing, strategic management of intellectual property & technology portfolios, global technology licensing, spin out company formation and management. Anabela Correia has more than 10 years experience in technology commercialisation in the field of medicine.

Dr. Philip Gan - Founder

Dr Philip Gan is the Chief Medical Officer and founding director of Livac Pty Ltd. Dr Gan gained his medical degree through the University of Melbourne in 1991 and became a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2001. Dr Gan is a consultant general surgeon at the St John of God and Southwest Healthcare Hospitals, Warrnambool. His area of interest is in minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery, including laparoscopic colorectal resections, hernia repairs, cholecystectomy, bariatric surgery, fundoplication and splenectomy (largest 2.6kg). Dr Gan has been performing single port cholecystectomies since 2012. His aim in reducing the number of incisions required in laparoscopic surgery was a key driver in developing the LiVac Retractor. Dr Phillip Gan is the inventor of the LiVac Laparoscopic Liver Retractor System and founding director of Livac Pty Ltd.

Penelope Lane

Penelope has built an international career in Biomedical and Healthcare Innovation, led global cross-cultural teams enabling clients, products and projects to reach their full economic and social impact for investors, shareholders and global communities. Having held leadership positions in Portfolio Strategy, Research and Development, Emerging Markets, Product Management and Strategic Partnership, and Investment her experience spans leadership positions for global corporations and complex public and private health organisations, such as the World Health Organization, The Victorian Government, New York State, Monash and Melbourne Universities , Australian Unity, Bupa, The Mayo Clinic, and numerous global executive positions in Medical and Pharmaceutical companies such as GSK, MSD and Medtronic. Penelope has successfully taken an Australian Cardiovascular Simulation MedTech start-up from prototype to capital raising, into international markets and though to multinational exit by acquisition to Terumo. Penelope continues to lead, advise, mentor, and invest into medical technology innovation and start-ups. She is a member of advisory boards for innovation and investment for Swinburne University and The Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, and is on the board of the Australian Friends of Sheba Medical Centre - Israel. Penelope holds undergraduate degrees in Business and Biomedical Science and Business from Monash University, a Graduate Certificate in cold-chain logistics from Nanjing University, and is undertaking her Master's in Health Economics and a Grad Cert. in Pharmacoeconomics at Harvard University.

Philip Nowell

Moving into the commercial side of the industry, Philip honed his extensive business experience through J&J's Ethicon Endo-Surgery - a leader in laparoscopic and minimally invasive surgery instrumentation - built a major national pathology business, recovered a medical centre group, scaled up Cook Medical's aortic device business into a top global market position and played a lead role in developing the strategy that resulted in the Ascyrus Medical sale to CryoLife Inc in 2020 for a total of US$200M. His focus is now on bringing commercial discipline to the creative pursuit of innovation. Phillip's expertise is in successful commercialisation and scaling of medical technology innovation to local and international markets.
