Established in 1874 by a group of farmers in Jefferson County, Kentucky, we have grown to provide homeowner, dwelling and farm insurance to the Central Kentucky area... Formed on May 4, 1874, the American Mutual Fire Insurance Company of Kentucky was founded by a group of German farmers as the German Mutual Fire Insurance Company of Jefferson County. The German Mutual Company was organized as an assessment company. The company gradually grew during the next fourteen years and incorporated in 1888. Unfortunately, many of the earlier records have been lost, but a well preserved book of minutes from May 4, 1874 through December 1898 remains. All of the recorded minutes are written in German with a pronounced German penmanship. Some of the current officers and directors are descendants from the original founders.
