The Mary Duke Biddle Foundation has a longstanding commitment to youth education. We focus this grantmaking on two areas: Student Academic Success and Arts Education. In both areas, the foundation makes grants to help children, especially those in underserved communities, acquire the knowledge, skills, and behaviors they need to succeed in school, career pathways, and life... The Mary Duke Biddle Foundation supports arts nonprofits and PreK-12 education organizations in the Triangle region of North Carolina. Per Mrs. Biddle's direction, one-half of funding goes to Duke University. MDBF also makes grants to the University of North Carolina School of the Arts and three churches, all institutions important to Mrs. Biddle's family... The board and staff regularly scrutinize internal operations and grantmaking practices to ensure that the foundation retains its strong philanthropic practices.
