NEW WEST FARMERS MARKET - Key Persons

Chelsea Watt

Job Titles:
  • President of the Board of Directors
Chelsea has lived in New West for 9 years, but grew up just over the border in Burquitlam and learned to swim at our very own Canada Games pool. By day, she works as a communications manager at BC Hydro, and by night and weekend, she's an avid baker, home cook, and seasonal patio gardener. She loves testing new recipes, filling her freezer with too much baking, and drinking B.C. craft beer. She is passionate about local food, the best recipes for homemade dill pickles, and attempting to keep her houseplants alive.

Emily Gaudette

Job Titles:
  • Market Manager
  • Market Staff Member
Emily (She/Her) is an able-bodied, cis-queer, white settler residing on unceded xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) lands. She has lived and worked on the unceded lands of the Halkomelem speaking peoples on and off since 2017 - something about the strong sense of community keeps her happily rooted here. She has a background in nonprofit event management and is a graduate of the interdisciplinary Global Stewardship program at Capilano University, designed to train its graduates for work in the not-for-profit sector. Emily is deeply committed to the process of building inclusive, equitable and sustainable communities. With a passion for food justice and shopping all things local, she's thrilled to continue the important work of providing a space for local entrepreneurship and community to thrive at the market. In her down time, you might catch her enjoying some live music, thrifting too many knick-knacks or attending the next local, community event!

Flannery May

Job Titles:
  • Secretary of the Board of Directors
A transplant from California, Flannery is proud to call New West home. She joined the Board of NWFM in 2023 to engage with and give back to the New West community. Flannery has worked in finance and management roles for over a decade at charitable organizations across Canada and the US. Outside of work and NWFM, you can find her running along the waterfront or browsing at the library.

Jon Jennings

Job Titles:
  • Member of the Board of Directors
Jon is a recent arrival in New Westminster but can honestly say that nowhere has ever felt more like home. The NWFM, with its focus on local produce and community, is one of the things that makes him feel that way. It's a struggle to get him to cross the city border and ever leave New West… except for beer. Promise him good beer and he'll follow you anywhere.

Kim MacPherson

Job Titles:
  • Vice President of the Board of Directors
Kim has been a resident of New West for many years. She is a professional engineer who is an avid gardener and plant collector. She is always experimenting and trying to grow new things; this year will be peaches and mini watermelons. She is a huge dog lover who regularly competes in dog agility with her aussie shepherd. She is looking forward to serving on the board of the NWFM and connecting with local farmers and artisans.

Lily Nichol

Job Titles:
  • Assistant
  • Market Manager
  • Market Staff Member
Lily has been part of the management team of NWFM since 2018 and loves working hands on with her community. She was born and raised in New West with a slight detour by way of Kamloops and Prince George while finally landing back in her favourite city in 2013. She loves the New West Farmers Market, community building, food, cooking, small businesses, and supporting local. In her spare time you can catch her walking her dog around New West, sampling local craft ciders, and trying new recipes! She hopes to see you at the market this season!

Nataliya Batara

Job Titles:
  • Treasurer of the Board of Directors
Nataliya has moved to New Westminster in 2018 and has never looked back! She loves living in a city where people know their neighbours, talk to strangers and help each other. She has joined the Board of the New West Farmers Market as a Treasurer in 2022 as a way to meet like-minded folks and to stay involved in her local community. Nataliya has worked in accounting and advisory for 7 years and holds her Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) and Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) designations. Outside of work, she loves wine tasting, cooking, walking uphill both ways (because this is New West!), and chasing after her toddler.

Sandy Haug

Job Titles:
  • Member of the Board of Directors
Originally from Alberta, Sandy Haug moved to Vancouver in 2003 to enter culinary school. Working as a baker for the next year and a half she met her significant other, another baker. After working abroad for a few years she decided to settle down in the Vancouver area. As a foodie, the Lower Mainland is like a dream come true. 6 years ago she moved to New Westminster with her partner and two kids and she has never felt more at home. Falling in love with the big city small-town feel that New Westminster embodies has inspired her to become more involved in her community. By volunteering as treasurer with the New West Farmers Market she hopes to give back to this great community.
