Amanda Black

Job Titles:

Amanda has been dental assisting for her father Mike since 2006. Her passion for the Orthodontic side took over and she is now also his Orthodontic assistant. She enjoys seeing the results they achieve and getting to know her patients. Her hobbies include baking (she makes the most amazing cupcakes!) and working on her wake board skills.

Cameron Lewis

Cameron completed his dental degree (BDS) from Otago in 1991. Following this he worked in both hospital and private general practice for several years. He later returned to Otago to commence specialist training in oral and maxillofacial surgery, gaining his medical degree (MB ChB) and masters degree (MDS) in oral and maxillofacial surgery in 2005. The following year Cameron worked as a general medical house surgeon at Auckland Hospital and completed his training in the Specialty working for several years as a senior registrar at Middlemore Hospital in Auckland. He gained his Australasian Fellowship (FRACDS) in Brisbane in 2008. Cameron practices the entire scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery however his special interests include the management of orbital and midface trauma, orthognathic surgery and bone augmentation for dental implants. He currently holds a consultant post in oral and maxillofacial surgery at Middlemore Hospital and consults privately at Quay Park Health in the City. Cameron is married to Tracy and they have three children: Ben, Hannah and Sam.

Claire Henderson

Claire grew up in South Africa and lived and trained as dental hygienist in the United Kingdom (UK) for nine years before coming out to New Zealand on a holiday and falling in love with the country. A graduate of the prestigious Birmingham Dental School and Royal London Hospital, Claire met her Kiwi husband Rob on the snowfields here and today they have two children and live on the North Shore. Claire enjoys the Shore lifestyle which allows her to indulge her passion for fishing diving, gardening, entertaining, reading, taking the kids mountain biking and a raft of other activities. Claire has been at North Shore Dental since 2003 and has established herself as an integral part of the team. She is an active member of the NZDHA and is the Chairperson of the North Shore branch.

Dr Ana Turner

I am originally from Brazil where I graduated from Dental School in 1999. After working in Brazil for almost 4 years I decided to move to New Zealand in pursuit of a lifestyle change and further studying. In 2009, I joined North Shore Dental and I can truly say I love everything about my job! Creating beautiful smiles is a form of art, but more fun, and I get to meet some pretty awesome people while I do it! My main focus and special interests are Orthodontics (braces) for both kids and adults (yes! Adults can have braces too!) and Cosmetic Dentistry, which includes complex fillings, Veneers, Crowns and Bridges. I am also passionate about Dysport, a muscle relaxant like Botox, used in the treatment of wrinkles as well as for the treatment of patients that grind and clench their teeth. It is one my favourites products to use and I've been doing this for many years with amazing results. Ana is originally from Brazil where she graduated from Dental School in 1999. After working in Brazil for 4 years she decided to move to New Zealand in pursuit of a lifestyle change and further studying. In 2009, Ana joined North Shore Dental and her special interests are INVISALIGN for both kids and adults and Cosmetic Dentistry, which includes complex fillings, Veneers, Crowns and Bridges. She has also been using Dysport for over a decade. Dysport is a muscle relaxant like Botox, used in the treatment of wrinkles as well as for the treatment of patients that grind and clench their teeth In her spare time, Ana will be running some kms around Auckland or exercising her other passion, which is burning something in the kitchen for her husband Nick and two kids Jack and Louis.

Dr Anthony van der Steeg

Born in Christchurch to Dutch parents, Anthony has spent most of his time practicing on the North Shore since graduating from Otago University. Like his partners, Anthony is a family man married to wife Elle and they have two sons Dominic and Hamish. Anthony was inspired at an early age, by his family dentist, to enter dentistry and now enjoys all areas of his profession. Not only is his adventurous spirit reflected in his keen drive to keep up-to-date with the latest techniques and technology, but he is also a keen scuba diver, fisherman and squash player.

Dr David Lovrich

  • Founder and Director of the New Zealand Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry
David was a past Chairman of the New Zealand Dental Association's 'Peer Review Committee'. Has also in the past been 'Expert Advisor to the Health and Disability Commissioner' and to the small claims court. A former Director of the New Zealand Dental Association and of the Auckland Dental Association, David has been practicing dentistry since 1980. A founder and Director of the New Zealand Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, David says there is continuing evidence that image is important in the modern era. A person with a nice smile is perceived to be healthier and more successful. Muscle and Fitness magazine recently found that people with a 'poor' smile are 75% less likely to get an employment position than somebody with a nice smile." David was a past Chairman of the New Zealand Dental Association's 'Peer Review Committee'. He has also in the past been 'Expert Advisor to the Health and Disability Commissioner' and to the small claims court. Dave believes in and is committed to continuing education and attends many courses every year, both here and overseas.

Dr Gerard Skinner

Gerard is a North Shore resident and although he had a successful practice in Auckland City, the lure of his many North Shore patients, his family and the opportunity to join us encouraged him to make the move to Browns Bay. He has been with us now for 13 years and his cheery, comical personality makes a visit to the dentist an enjoyable experience. His special interests include cosmetic dentistry and orthodontics. He is an active member of the NZDA, ADA, and an Executive member of the New Zealand Dentists Orthodontic Society and of the New Zealand Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. Gerard is the Treasurer of East Coast Bays Junior Rugby Club and the founder of Dentists for a Cure charity. Gerard enjoys sporting persuits, especially with his wife and three children.

Dr Michael Black

Michael has been practicing in Auckland since 1984 after graduating from Otago University. He joined the practice as a partner to Dave in 1989 and together with Anthony has built the family practice we have today. He has always had a strong interest in orthodontics and since 1985 has achieved outstanding results in this area. He believes in the 'Full Face Orthodontics" approach and treating the cause, not just the symptom of crooked teeth, for a lifelong beautiful smile. Mike is the President of the NZDOS (New Zealand Dentists Orthodontics Society) as well as a member of the NZDA, ADA, and the IAO (International Association of Orthodontics). Mike is highly experienced in full mouth restorations and cosmetic dentistry. He gets pride from restoring a patient's mouth to its full potential. Mike believes in treating other people they way he would like to be treated. With this approach he has a relaxed relationship with his staff and patients, which seems to work wonders. He also understands the importance of building on his own experiences and knowledge by attending dental conferences in New Zealand as well as America and Australia. Mike enjoys learning about the latest innovations dentistry has to offer and believes continuing education is the key to providing our patients with the highest standard of dental treatments available. Mike also enjoys a high speed run down the drag strip (in his modified cars), fishing and farm living. He is lucky enough to have four beautiful women to share his life with, wife Robyn and their three daughters Amanda, Kristie and Sammy.

Dr Suzannah Miller

Suzannah graduated from the University of Otago in 2000, gaining a Bachelor of Dentistry with Credit. After graduation she headed overseas, completing the UK Vocational Training Scheme and working in London for 6 years. The lifestyle called her back to NZ and she joined the "dynamic, positive and professional team" at North Shore Dental in 2007. Suzannah is a member of the NZDA, ADA and NZACD and is committed to her continuing professional development. She is interested in all aspects of general and cosmetic dentistry, including the provision of complex fillings, veneers, and crowns and bridges and is a Rhondium One-Visit-Crown provider. Suzannah is very patient and gentle and puts nervous patients at ease. She has a special interest in Paediatric Dentistry and although treating children can be challenging, it is also very rewarding. Suzannah is able to explain treatment to children in a way they can understand. Dentistry is a happy mix of art, science and communication for Suzannah. She believes it is important to listen and involve you in any discussion, taking time to explain all the options available so that you and can make informed choices regarding your dental care. Outside of work, Suzannah is kept busy with her husband, Craig, their two young sons and the family dog. Her interests are arts and crafts, theatre, film, music, pilates, food, education, and spending time with family and friends.

Jane Wigg

Jane has been with us since 1994 and is a very experienced dental assistant! Starting her dental career as a Dental Therapist (school dental nurse) for 9 years and then resumed as a dental assistant for us after parenting leave. Jane assists both Anthony van der Steeg and Gerard Skinner. Her vast experience gained over the years and her calm organized manner have earned her the Clinical Team Leader role. She is responsible for the standards of care within the surgeries, from infection control to staff training and welfare. Jane lives in Torbay with her husband, She has two adult children who are both living in Sydney.

Omael Saadi

Omaël joined us in 2023, he is a graduate from the University of Otago NZ. Omaël is a passionate dental surgeon with a genuine interest in providing holistic care for his patients. His wish is to fulfil his role as a professional care provider by treating and improving the dental health of his Auckland community. Omaël made the ongoing commitment of learning and practicing the latest advancement in the field of dentistry as he understands that all patients deserve the best up to date treatment. Growing up in Canada and coming from a multiethnic background being half Moroccan and half Seychellois, Omaël had the possibility of strengthening more than one language along with learning and appreciating cultural differences. From a young age until now, he always had a particular admiration for artwork, whether it be dentistry related or someone else's craft such as a painting, film or music. He also has a passion for fitness and dancing. He firmly believes that a healthy body leads to a healthy mind!

Roanne Horne

Roanne moved to New Zealand from South Africa in 2001. Although she will always be proud of her South African roots, having grown up in NZ, Roanne considers herself a kiwi. Roanne gained a Bachelor of Health Science in 2010 from AUT University where she was awarded the prestigious Hu Friedy Golden Scaler Award for Best Clinical Periodontal Skills. Having gained experience in both Public Health and Private Practice, Roanne prides herself in providing meticulous yet gentle treatments to her patients. Living in Albany, Roanne enjoys a busy lifestyle going on many adventures with her husband and two young children.

Scott Waghorn

Born and bred in Palmerston North, Scott has been practicing dentistry in Auckland since 2005. A foundation member of New Zealand Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, Scott loves the art and science of dentistry - and using the latest digital and laser technology to comfortably transform his patients smile.

Toki Cho

Toki was born and raised in Kobe, Japan for the first 4 years of his life, until migrating to New Zealand in 2001. Although his nationality is Korean, he considers himself Japanese as he grew up with Japanese values and culture. Toki gained a Vice Chancellors scholarship to AUT and graduated with a Bachelor of Health Science in Oral Health in 2018. He worked with Auckland Regional Dental Service before joining us in April 2022. He has a passion for drawing and is currently working on some comic book artwork in his spare time. His love for Snoopy is uncontested!
