Abby Niebling

Job Titles:

Research Interests Abby's research interests include sports medicine, specifically concussions, musculoskeletal injuries, and mental health. She is very excited to work on an interdisciplinary team as she prepares for a career in Athletic Training.

Abigail Bowsher

Abigail Bowsher joined the B-BAL in the summer of 2022. She completed her bachelor's degree in Psychology at the University of Cincinnati.

Abigail Shell

Abby is a graduate of The Ohio State University with a B.S. in Psychology with a minor in Neuroscience. She has previously performed research at the medical center studying patients with TBI. Her interests include TBI, degenerative brain disease, and sports-related brain injuries. In her free time, she enjoys working out and learning about new things. She is now pursuing her doctorate at the University of Pittsburg.

Adam Culiver

Alex Hasselbach

Alex joined The MINDSET Lab in 2019 after graduating from The Ohio State University with a B.S. in biomedical engineering. He previously co-authored A Novel Methodology for Extracting and Evaluating Therapeutic Movements in Game-Based Motion Capture Rehabilitation Systems (2018), with the Brain and Neurorecovery Lab at Ohio State. He is interested in clinical applications of neuroscience research and its potential to create new and better treatments. When he isn't in the lab, he likes running, traveling, and building computers. He left the lab to attend medical school at the University of Toledo.

Alexa Shin

Alexa Shin joined the B-BAL in the summer of 2021. She is a senior undergraduate studying Biochemistry and Neuroscience at the Ohio State University and plans to attend medical school after graduation. Her research interests include neurodegenerative diseases and cognitive decline in adults. In her free time, Alexa enjoys listening to music, playing piano, running, spending time with friends and family, and visiting art galleries.

Andrew Eicher

Job Titles:

Research Interests Andrew is interested in concussions and other neurological research based around how different neural stimuli affect movement. He is also a member of the sports science initiative where he is involved in research on injury prevention, game loads, player physical demand, and gender differences in injuries in volleyball.

Annie Lee

Annie Lee is a Clinical Psychology graduate student. She graduated from Washington University in St. Louis in 2019 with a B.A. in Philosophy-Neuroscience-Psychology, and a concentration in Cognitive Neuroscience. Following graduation, she worked at the Washington University School of Medicine, running MRI scans, and working with diffusion and EEG data. Her research interests include early detection and prevention of cognitive aging. In her free time, she enjoys finding new restaurants and cafes, traveling, and spending time with friends and family.

Arjun Dhankani

Research Interests Arjun is interested in sports medicine and preventive care, specifically in long-distance runners. He joined the MOvES Research Team to get a stronger understanding of the correlation between medicine and research.

Ayush Mehra

Job Titles:

Research Interests Ayush is interested in research in sports medicine and how optimal performance can be hindered after an injury, specifically after ACL reconstruction. He focuses on nutritional and neurological aspects that may affect the individual during rehabilitation. He joined the MOvES Research Team to gain research experience and expand his knowledge outside of the classroom to tie that in with a future career as a physician.

Blake Hartline

Research Interests Blake is interested in sports medicine and injury prevention, specifically in pediatrics. He is a part of the current sports science initiative with the HPC researching injury prevention and performance in varsity athletics. Through the MOvES Research Team, he hopes to gain research experience working with athletes and expand his skills outside of the classroom as he pursues a career in physical therapy.

Christina Himes

Christina is an undergraduate student at The Ohio State University studying Psychology and Pharmaceutical Sciences. Her research interests include the effects of chronic stress on mental and physical health as well as finding new treatments and therapies. In her free time, Christina enjoys exercising, hanging out with friends, and watching reality tv shows.

Cody Mansfield

Collin Todd

Collin Todd joined the B-BAL in the spring of 2021. He is a senior undergraduate student studying neuroscience at The Ohio State University with plans to attend medical school after graduation. Collin is interested in exploring the relationship between an array of fitness markers and cognition in older adults. Specifically, he aims to apply his knowledge of cognitive decline to help form a precision medicine model, in which cognition, fitness, and neuroimaging factors are considered when tailoring treatment for individuals. In his free time, Collin enjoys playing Spikeball with his friends, learning about the history of his hometown, and shooting baskets with his brothers.

Dalia Einstein

Dalia is an undergraduate student at The Ohio State University studying Psychology and Neuroscience with a minor in French. Her research interests include mental health and neurodegenerative disorders, specifically in children and adolescents, and developing the best ways to combat these disorders early. Outside of the lab, she is a Neuroscience Ambassador and a member of the OSU chapter of Nu Rho Psi. In her free time, Dalia loves to run and hike, bake, and walk her dogs.

Darshan Patel

Research Interests Darshan interested in sports medicine research, particularly the effects of head traumas and how it can affect performance in daily tasks and activities. He joined the MOvES Research Team to gain research experience and knowledge that can aid in his future goal of practicing medicine.

Dr. Greg Edwards

Dr. Greg Edwards is a Board Certified Orthopaedic Physical Therapist (OCS) with a goal of improving understanding of postural control and balance in many populations, particularly following concussion. He currently is working under Dr Caccese in the "CAVE", the immersive virtual laboratory studying gait characteristics following concussion.

Erica Howard

Erica graduated from Fordham University in 2017 with a B.S. in Neuroscience. She then worked with neurodegenerative disease patients at the University of Pennsylvania before joining the MINDSET lab in 2021. She is pursuing a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Neuropsychology. Her research interests include brain injury and its interaction with other biopsychological risk factors for neurodegeneration. For fun, Erica enjoys traveling, auto racing, and hanging out with family and friends.

Erin Gilliland

Erin is studying neuroscience with a minor in clinical psychology as an undergraduate student here at The Ohio State University. She is interested stress-related disorders, trauma, and neuropsychology. She is planning on pursuing graduate school in the future. Outside of the lab, Erin is a Wellness Coach for the University. She enjoys working out, taking care of her plants, cooking, and spending time with her loved ones.

Erin Zhao

Erin is an undergraduate student at The Ohio State University studying Psychology on the pre-med track. Her research interests include stress and mental health and her previous experiences in research were involved in multiple sclerosis and schizophrenia. Outside of the lab, Erin is a mentor for students in the TOPS program at OSU and enjoys music/playing the piano, watching TV, and hanging out with friends.

Gioia Melillo

Gioia worked with the MINDSET Lab as an undergraduate research assistant and is currently finishing her bachelor's degree. She is involved in multiple volunteering programs and is working towards graduate school.

Grace Roseen

Grace is a graduate of Wartburg College with B.A.s in Psychology and Neuroscience with a minor in Leadership. She has previously conducted research at Wartburg College studying the effects of mask wearing on facial emotion recognition in humans and the effects of minor traumatic brain injuries in mice. Her interests include TBI and the relationship between the brain, cognition, and physical abilities. In her free time, she enjoys running, hiking, cooking, and spending time with family and friends.

Jaclyn B. Caccese

Jena Moody

Jena joined the MINDSET lab in 2018. She is a recent graduate of St. Olaf College and is pursuing a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Neuropsychology. Her research interests include stress, TBI, and the relationship between the brain and behavior. Outside of lab, she enjoys running, going to her cabin in northern Minnesota, and spending time with family and friends.

Jessica Stark

Jessica Stark is a clinical psychology graduate student. Her research interests are focused on early identification of cognitive decline and interventions to promote healthy aging. Jessica's goal is to promote individualized treatments to prevent or ameliorate cognitive dysfunction, and to educate our aging population through community outreach. In her free time, Jessica enjoys spending time with friends and family, running, and exploring new cities.

John McArthur

Research Interests John is interested in research about human anatomy, rehabilitation, and injury prevention. His interests also include strength and conditioning, specifically how exercise can be utilized therapeutically for rehabilitation and injury prevention. Through the MOvES Research Team, he hopes to gain experience conducting research on physically active populations that he can use in the future as a clinician and a researcher.

Juan Guzman Roca

Juan worked with the MINDSET Lab as a research assistant and is currently working at Mitre Corporation as a Software Engineer. He is also pursuing his PhD at Wright State University in Interdisciplinary Applied Science and Mathematics.

Kalor Greve

Kalor is interested in sports medicine, injury prevention, and concussion. She joined the MOvES Research Team in order to gain a better understanding of the experimentation and analytical processes behind research and to use her knowledge in her future career as a sports medicine physician.

Kate Valerio

Kate is a recent graduate from Stony Brook University with a master's in Neuroscience. She is pursuing a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Neuropsychology. Her research interests include TBI and the relationship between brain and cognition. In her free time, Kate loves to read European historical fiction, bake cookies for her loved ones, and travel.

Matthew Stauder

Matthew Stauder is a graduate student in Clinical Psychology. He graduated in the Ohio State University Class of 2018 with a B.S. in Behavioral Neuroscience. After graduation, Matthew coordinated clinical trials in the Neurological Clinical Research Institute at Massachusetts General Hospital. His research interests involve advancing our understanding and promotion of brain health - physical, cognitive, and emotional functioning - throughout the adult lifespan. In his spare time, Matthew enjoys all sorts of exercise and sports, reading about history and current events, and listening to comedy podcasts.

Michael Melville

Michael Melville joined the B-BAL in the spring of 2021. He is a junior undergraduate student studying biochemistry at The Ohio State University and plans to attend medical school after graduation. Michael is interested in understanding the complex relationship between factors such as physical activity, exercise, BMI, cerebral spinal fluid biomarkers, and many more variables that may predict variance in cognitive and functional decline in older adults. He hopes to better understand this variance to facilitate timely intervention in clinical settings as well as raise awareness of certain modifiable factors that may result in better outcomes with cognitive and functional abilities. Outside of the lab, he enjoys working out, playing Euchre, reading books, mentoring, and going to coffee shops.

Nimanthi Ranatunga

Nimanthi is an undergraduate student studying Psychology with a minor in Human Development and Family Studies, and joined the MINDSET Lab in 2020. Her previous experiences in research involved utilizing eye tracking technology with deaf children who have cochlear implants to study differences in cognitive abilities. Her research interests include stress, trauma, mental health, and social support and how such aspects influence behavior. Outside of the lab, Nimanthi loves reading, traveling, and spending time with her friends and family. She has left in order to pursue her PsyD at Xavier University.

Ryan Tracy

Research Interests Ryan is interested in contributing to sports medicine research on the MOvES Team, specifically in the context of ACL injury prevention and rehabilitation. She joined the MOvES Research Team to gain experience for a career in physical therapy, specializing in either pediatrics or sports medicine.

Sarah Pancake

Research Interests Sarah is interested in research focused on low back pain in athletes as well as sport performance and injury prevention. She is currently conducting her Honors Thesis on The Effect of Load Carriage on a Quadriceps Angle During Walking and Running. She joined the MOvES Research Team in order to gain research experience to prepare her for a career as a physical therapist specializing in sports rehabilitation in hopes of working with high school and collegiate athletes.

Sarah Prieto

Sarah graduated from SUNY Geneseo with a degree in Psychology and Early Childhood/Childhood Education in 2015. Following graduation, she worked on a study examining the effects of mindfulness training on measures of stress and inflammation in older adults with HIV. She joined the clinical psychology program at The Ohio State University in 2018. Her research interests include the effects of chronic and traumatic stress on metrics of cognitive and physical health.

Savana Jurgens

Savana graduated from the University of Minnesota with a B.S. in Psychology and Biology in 2020. Before joining the MINDSET Lab, she worked as a research assistant on a study examining the long-term effects of stress and TBI in veterans at the Minneapolis VA Health Care System. Her research interests include neural and genetic correlates of symptom outcomes in TBI and stress-related disorders. Outside of the lab she enjoys hiking, music, travel and the occasional reality TV binge.

Sophia Gutierrez

Sophia is currently an undergraduate student at OSU and is majoring in Psychology. She is majoring in Psychology with a minor in Neuroscience. She plans on entering the field of clinical neuropsychology and is mainly interested in Alzheimer's research. In her free time she likes to read, write, and draw.

Thomas (T.J.) Beach

T.J. Is interested in research about injury prevention in the military and tactical athlete population. He joined the MoVES lab to gain experience in current research methods used to collect data in the military setting. He wants to use this experience to become an athletic trainer in the military to educate and prevent injuries associated with combat training.

Yu Ning Shiu

Yu Ning is an undergraduate student at The Ohio State University studying Chemistry with a minor in Mathematics and Biology, on the pre-dental track. Her research interests include mental health, stress, and trauma. In her free time, she enjoys reading, crafting, and spending time with friends and family. She has now moved onto pursuing a path in chemistry research and hopes to one day get her dental degree.
