The ability to maintain incubation temperatures to create an optimal hatching environment. Incubation temperatures directly affect the mortality rate, health, and in the case of reptiles the sex of hatchlings. Many animals use egg incubation to create offspring. These animal classes include birds, fish, reptiles, and amphibians. Each of these classes require specific incubation environments for their eggs. They range from completely submerged in water to dry with humid air conditions. Most eggs will require turning and temperature changes as the embryo develops. Incubators that incorporate chillers are able to adjust temperature slowly without causing shock to the embryo. By using a chiller in conjunction with an incubation chamber commercial producers and hatcheries ensure high numbers of healthy hatchlings can be produced from each brooding cycle.
