Sean Moore - President

Sean Moore, SME's President, has more than 33 years of experience in the environmental consulting and cultural resources management industries. He holds a B.S. in Geography with a minor in Geology from the University of California at Davis. Prior to working in the private sector, he worked for the California Department of Conservation mapping annual changes in agricultural land use for the department's Farmland Mapping and Monitoring program. In 1990, Sean joined SME in its Sacramento, California office in the GIS Department providing mapping and field support on Clean Water Act and Endangered Species Act projects. From 1993 to 1995, he worked for Geoscan USA conducting geophysical surveys at various archaeological sites throughout the Country of Turkey. In 1996, he assisted Paul Sugnet in the opening of SME's Durango, Colorado office. During the last 27 years he has played a key role on all aspects of the firm's major projects for clients including: ConocoPhillips Company, La Plata Electric Association, Colorado Department of Transportation, Durango Mountain Resort, Southern Ute Indian Tribe, La Plata County, and the City of Durango. In 2004, he became a partner in the firm, and in 2010 he assumed full ownership. He is an active and past member of various community groups including: Leadership La Plata (Class of 2010-2011), Durango Early Learning Center Board (2006 to 2010), City of Durango Youth Soccer (volunteer coach 2010 to 2016), Durango Area Youth Hockey Association (board member from 2015 to 2020), Chapman Hill snowmaking group, and the Animas River Task Force on Clean Water Act issues related to the implementation of the Animas River Whitewater Master plan.
