Brent joined Remotely Consulting in November 2022. He spent over 15 years as a life science researcher, and has almost two years prior experience as an English-language scientific editor. During his time as a life scientist, Brent rose to the rank of Laboratory Head at Monash University. He has won more than US$3.5 million in funding (over US$1.4 million as lead investigator), has run his own research lab, supervised staff and students, mentored PhD students, and served as grant assessor and thesis examiner. Brent has published his research at the highest levels, including in Nature (2015), Brain (2022), PNAS (2017 x2) and Cell Reports (2014, 2016, 2017). From his previous experience, Brent has edited almost one million words from over 260 research articles written by scientists from across Asia, Europe, and the Americas. Brent brings to Remotely Consulting his lived experience as a research-intensive academic with a record of extensive funding and manuscript publishing success.

Julian founded Remotely Consulting on August 16th, 2022. He is a 17-year veteran of the life sciences and a qualified counsellor. Julian has worked in five universities, four research institutes and three of the top Australian Go8 universities (University of Melbourne, Monash University, and University of Western Australia). He rose to the rank of Associate Professor in two universities, winning >US$3.5M in research funding (US$2.1M as lead) including ten project grants and two fellowships as well as other university/philanthropic grants. He has published research findings with over 120 authors from more than a dozen different countries and in journals including Nature (2008) and Cell Reports (2012, 2016, 2020). Julian has mentored over three dozen staff and students towards their chosen careers, as well as serving administrative and national oversight roles while reviewing manuscripts for dozens of journal titles as well as grant applications for funding agencies all over the world, and more. Julian brings all of his lived experience in the life sciences when working with our clients, supporting the academic publishing and career progression of life scientists and biomedical professionals that partner with Remotely Consulting. Julian attained his Bachelor's of Science from UWA and his PhD from the University of Melbourne, working at the Howard Florey Institute. He trained as a CJ Martin Fellow and then as an MRC Career Development Fellow at the National Institute for Medical Research (UK). In 2010, he established his independent laboratory at the Australian Regenerative Medicine Institute before relocating his research to the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research in August 2014. In 2017, he commenced with Curtin University as an Associate Professor of Neuroscience. Julian is interested to understand how the brain is put together, and how we can apply this knowledge to give individuals the best start to life as well as to improve mental health as we age. Xin has over 10 years' experience researching neurodegenerative diseases, and was awarded over US$450K in funding, including an NHMRC-ARC Dementia Research Development Fellowship to conduct his research. Xin has published 30 peer-reviewed research publications and has also worked as a Scientific editor on more than 1000 articles totalling almost 3 million words in less than three years. Beyond scientific publishing, Xin is also published in general media, including as a columnist in The Spectator Australia and Spike-Online. Xin brings to Remotely Consulting his publishing experience across a broad range of disciplines and cultural experience with our clients in Asia.
