When manufacturers develop a new vehicle they have to consider all of the conditions it may could be subjected to in all of the regions where it will be sold. This means instead of optimising the ECU (Engine Control Unit) softwatre or ‘map' to every possible situation or marketplace, they have to make compromises to account for these potential differing... operating conditions. These could include sub-standard fuels, extremes in temperature and altitude, regional emissions laws and less than ideal servicing and maintenance, not in accordance with the manufacturers recommended instructions.
