Alex Strivens

Alex is a Physician Associate Partner at Montgomery Medical Practice, Powys. His clinical interests include Minor Surgery, Frailty and Psychiatry. Having joined the practice in 2016 he become a partner in 2021. He helped found the Staffordshire and Shropshire PA internship in 2017 having developed its syllabus. The Internship has seen over 60 graduates to date, he is now the Training Programme Director for number of PA Primary Care Internships in the Midlands and Northwest. In 2018 he completed his PGCert in Medical education. From 2021-23 he developed and delivered the Staffordshire PDP programme for PAs, UCPs and APPs. He has previously served for 5 years as a PA Ambassador from the inception of the role in 2017. In 2023 he chaired the inaugural Primary Care Physican Associates Annual Conference which was attended by over 125 Primary Care PAs.

Alison Yates

Andrea Foster

Andrea is an experienced communications professional with over 20 years' experience in an NHS setting. Andrea has excellent experience developing and managing websites for GP Practices, PCNs and other healthcare organisations and has the skillset to actively identify and maximise opportunities to communicate through digital technology.

Dr Neil Paul - Founder

Job Titles:

Neil is the co-Founder of Howbeck Healthcare Ltd and provides the clinical leadership to the company. His clinical work provides a lot of the inspiration for the projects; most setting up a GPA training programme and How2, an online library of videos focussing on optimising the use of primary care IT systems. Neil writes his own blog promoting innovation in primary care and has over 5000 followers on Linkedin. Neil has been a full time GP Partner at Sandbach GPs in Sandbach, Cheshire, since August 2000. He is nationally known for his DigitalHealth.net column that discussed the highs and lows of IT in primary care and as a speaker and presenter and author in trade magazines such as GP, Medeconomics and EMIS User on topics including IT, Data Quality, QOF, business efficiency and primary care finances. He is currently executive partner at his practice, PCN Clinical Director of SMASH PCN and an active member of the local GP Alliance as well as involved in NHS Cheshire EAST Place meetings inc community care, IT and CVD. He runs a nationally recognised primary care clinical trials unit and his clinical interests are Cardiovascular medicine, Diabetes, Gastroenterology and Rheumatology. He still does 4-6 sessions a week in practice so understands the reality of general practice.

Edy Hicklin

Emma Colclough

Emma started work in the NHS back in 1999 and has since worked in primary, secondary, community and mental health services. Her expertise includes programme management, mentoring, leadership and business development. Amongst other things Emma has undertaken successful service redesign projects, developed strategic business plans and established operational services in primary care. Emma leads the Howbeck Tender Management and Bid Writing Team and is perhaps only one of very few people on the planet who gets excited when a new bid is launched!

Harriet Griffiths

Harriet has worked locally in Primary care for the past 7 years. She has worked in various positions including a medical secretary role, assistant to practice manager and most recently, for the past 3 years, an IT Lead position. Harriet has a keen interest in IT and has a wide range of knowledge in systems used in Primary care.

Kirsty Moore

Lisa is an experienced senior manager who worked within an NHS setting for over 20 years in a variety of corporate and clinical governance roles, forming strong relationships and developing a wide range of knowledge along the way. Lisa joined Howbeck in 2017 as the Business Manager for our company, and is responsible for providing day to day leadership and support to our team along with providing senior oversight and direction to our contracts and direct support to our clients to ensure the smooth running of our business. In addition, Lisa also provides programme management and financial leadership and expertise on a range of projects for our local Federations and contracts. Lisa is married with two children and lives in North Staffordshire.

Lucy Minshull

Lucy is an experienced manager who has worked in the NHS for the last 30 years. Lucy has a varied career portfolio predominantly leading on the NHS workforce agenda. Her previously roles have included working across both Primary Care and Secondary Care, Clinical Commissioning Groups, former Primary Care Trusts and NHS England. Lucy was appointed to Howbeck Healthcare in 2016. She is very committed and driven to deliver on organisational outcomes. She has built strong and credible working relationships over many years within the NHS which she continues to build upon. Her passion is to exceed at national level with formal recognition of the ‘structured teaching programme' for Physician Associates developed locally in Staffordshire to be accredited after completing their post graduated PA diploma

Mike Pyrah - Founder

Mike left the NHS in 2012 after a 34 year career. For the last 17 years of those Mike was a NHS Chief Executive, undertaking this role in both a NHS Trust in the West Midlands and for a large Primary Care Trust in Cheshire. Throughout his career Mike has always undertaken regional and national work particularly in his areas of interest which include, Social Value, Primary Care Development and Organisational Effectiveness. Mike was a Policy Board Member for NHS Employers for 6 years, a Board Member of the NHS Equality and Diversity Council for 3 years, and the President of the Healthcare People Management Association. On leaving the NHS Mike undertook a wide range of consultancy assignments within and outside the NHS, before he and Dr Neil Paul formed Howbeck Healthcare in 2014. Mike is primarily involved in providing management and leadership support to GP Federations, Practices and the new Primary Care Networks.

Nicola Laurie

Previously she worked in Education for 15 years and more recently joined SMASH PCN to support the Covid vaccination clinics in 2021. Nicola also works for SMASH PCN to support the Strategic Management Team and in June 2023, started working for Howbeck to support the Business Manager with Administration duties.

Rachel Hatfield

Rachel is an experienced Programme and Project Manager and has spent the last 11+ years working in/with the NHS, both locally in Staffordshire and Cheshire and also nationally, having led the national GPN digital upskilling action learning set programme focused on the creation of GPN digital champions by developing confidence, capability and capacity for delivery of accessible technology. Rachel leads on a number of primary care digital upskilling and digital initiatives across Cheshire and Northern Staffordshire and nationally, and has co-authored a number of published publications and books related to this work. Rachel is passionate about introducing digital tools to support both primary care teams and patients.

Rachel Viggars

Rachel has worked as a GPN and ANP in North Staffordshire for 20 years. Rachel is proud to be a Queen's Nurse, this title is awarded for demonstrating a high level of commitment to learning, leading and developing excellence in patient care and primary care nursing practice. Rachel maintains her clinical skills working in the extended access service. Since 2018, Rachel has also worked on a part time basis for the North Staffordshire GP Federation as Associate Director of Nursing, and Rachel joined the Staffordshire Training Hub in January 2021 as Strategic Nurse Lead and is now pleased to be working with Howbeck Healthcare as a Freedom to Speak Up Guardian East Staffs, Mercian and North Staffs.

Sarah Laing

Sarah has worked for Howbeck since 2017, she set up, leads and directs the new Primary Care Networks across East Staffordshire and Tamworth (Mercian PCN). She has over 25 years NHS experience; working as a CCG Chief Operating Officer and Director of Commissioning, Transformation and Performance in the Midlands. Sarah has a varied career portfolio combining Clinical, Business and Marketing and Public Health, she has extensive NHS board experience, and in addition has successfully completed the Nye Bevan Executive Leaders Programme. Sarah has specialised in organisational change; her passion is working with Primary Care facilitating resilient GP practices and productive partnerships, moving towards the New Models of Care for "Integrated at Scale Working", to innovate and improve outcomes. Sarah works closely with the Staffordshire Training Hub and is proactive in the workforce development within the Primary Care Networks.

Sarah Smith

Sharon Forrester-Wild

Sharon provides an independent DPO and IG service to over 100 health organisations over a wide geographical area in the North West and Midland areas. Organisations include primary care practices, health Federations, PCNs, hubs and private healthcare providers. She has a background of 14 years within the NHS and understands the acute pressures of the service and helps organisations balance their mandatory obligations to the UK GDPR and other legislations and real time workloads. Her speciality is providing training to staff and has created presentations for webinars, face-to-face and online live sessions. She is currently collaborating to create training videos to be included in the bundles for HOW2 and developing content for the GDPR page of the website.

Sue McDowell
