Dr. Ray Mattfeld

Dr. Mattfeld is the founder of Bright Bay Physical Therapy. Bright Bay PT was established in 2001 fulfilling a lifelong dream of providing manual therapy to an orthopedic and sports practice. He has extensive experience as a physical therapist and athletic trainer and has been treating orthopedic and sports injuries for the past 28 years. Dr. Mattfeld has treated everyone from the professional athlete, weekend warrior, little leaguer, and senior. From January 2014 to November 2015, he served as the major league physical therapist for the Boston Red Sox. He spent 2 years traveling and working with the team bringing his unique manual therapy skills to the major league players. During the time spent with the Red Sox, Dr. Mattfeld also became a certified level 1 Functional Movement Screen specialist. This movement screen examines fundamental movement patterns, motor control, and competency of fundamental movement patterns. This movement screen can help identify clients who may be at risk for injury and determine appropriate exercises for them. Dr. Mattfeld has been bringing back these experiences and skills to the staff at Bright Bay PT. Dr. Mattfeld received his undergraduate athletic training education at SUNY Cortland and his master's in physical therapy from Touro's School of Health Sciences in Bay Shore NY. He completed his post-graduate doctorate in physical therapy at Touro as well. Dr. Mattfeld is also board certified in orthopedics by the American Physical Therapy Association. Prior to opening Bright Bay PT, Dr. Mattfeld worked at Southside Health Institute for 10 years as the Sports Coordinator / Senior Clinical Specialist. During the time spent here he gained extensive training in manual therapy. Dr. Mattfeld has also been a member on the faculty of Touro since 1994. He began as a teaching assistant and eventually became a full-time instructor before becoming the Director of Clinical Education (DCE). Dr. Mattfeld has also presented and published research on the education of physical therapy students. During his time spent with the Red Sox, Dr. Mattfeld did not sever his ties with Touro. He retained a position of clinical assistant professor and has come back to offer insight to current students about his experiences working at a professional level. Dr. Mattfeld is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association, The New York Physical Therapy Association, and the National Athletic Training Association. Dr. Mattfeld has been an active member of the Bay Shore community for over 20 years. He serves as the coordinator of Athletic Training Services for Bay Shore High School, and helped in the development of the policies and procedures for the district's concussion management plan. He has been a major sponsor and volunteers for local events such as the Judi Shesh, Entermanns and Brightwaters Pumpkin Runs. He has lectured for local little leagues and on career day at Bay Shore Middle School. He was honored with the Man of the Year award by Bay Shore Athletic Sponsors. He also volunteers and serves on the Great South Bay YMCA Board of Directors.

Ilyse T. Flattau

Ilyse graduated from SUNY Albany in 1990, cum laude, with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a business minor. She worked in television production for a few years before deciding to return to school to be a Physical Therapist. Ilyse graduated from Touro College School of Health Sciences, summa cum laude, in 1996 with a Bachelor of Science in Health Science and a Master of Arts in Physical Therapy. Upon graduation, Ilyse worked as a staff physical therapist at Southside Health Institute. In addition to treating a variety of orthopedic, cervical, lumbar, TMJ, and extremity diagnoses, she became certified as a "return to work" examiner who physically tested trucking employees for lifting and fitness. At Southside she also taught "Back Classes" to instruct patients with back injuries on numerous activities of daily living. In 2001 Ilyse began her Bright Bay PT career where she continues to work as a physical therapist to date. Ilyse prides herself on her manual therapy skills. She has taken numerous continuing education courses on topics ranging from evaluating and treating orthopedic injuries, to kinesiotaping, to Pilates and Tai Chi in a PT rehab setting. She is an adjunct professor for Massage in the doctorate PT program at NYIT where she has also worked as a lab assistant for Manual Therapy I and II. In addition, Ilyse currently works in the doctorate PT program at Touro College School of Health Sciences as a lab assistant for Kinesiology, Massage, and Introduction to Interventions. She has expanded her career opportunities in home care physical therapy positions as well, and uses her many orthopedic skills as a wife and mother of three athletes. Ilyse loves spending time with her family and friends. Her favorite hobby is watching her boys play volleyball, lacrosse and baseball. She is very active in her school district's PTA and notes the importance of being present as a mom to two teenagers. Ilyse loves her career and is so happy to work in a caring, patient centered clinic such as Bright Bay PT

Stephanie Vecchio

Stephanie is a certified and licensed Athletic Trainer, who specialized in the prevention and rehabilitation of injuries to athletes of all ages and abilities. ATC's play a vital role in enhancing an athlete's performance, while also working closely with team physicians, athletic directors, and coaches to ensure that athletes compete at their highest potential and avoid injury. Working on the sidelines as well as in the clinical setting, the goal of athletic training is to return the athlete to his/her sport of choice as quickly as possible. Stephanie obtained her Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training from Colby-Sawyer College in 2015 and maintains her CPR/AED certifications through the American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers. Stephanie currently splits her time at work between Bright Bay Physical Therapy and Bay Shore High School. While at BBPT, she is involved with many of our services, including our athletic training services and post-concussive return to play. She has worked as the Athletic Trainer for Bay Shore High School since August 2016. Stephanie started working, as an aide, in the outpatient setting in 2013 for North Fork Physical Therapy and Eastern Long Island Hospital. Previously, she worked as an Athletic Trainer for Heartland Rehabilitation Services, providing ATC coverage for two high schools in the Jacksonville, FL area, as well as, working in some of their outpatient PT clinics. When time allows, Stephanie provides first aid and athletic training services for various camps, clinics, and Section XI events throughout Long Island. Stephanie now resides in West Babylon, but originally grew up on Shelter Island, where she played volleyball, basketball, and tennis. She continued her talent and passion for volleyball as a starter throughout her time Colby-Sawyer. She led her team to 4 NAC Conference Championships and 4 NCAA appearances.
