Briana Carlson

Briana Carlson focuses her practice on removal defense. Within that context, she handles a wide range of matters from humanitarian relief to waivers of inadmissibility. She has a passion for working with detained individuals whether in the context of bond or relief before the court. She has appeared in immigration courts across the country representing both detained and non-detained individuals. Briana advises individuals of the immigration consequences of potential criminal convictions when they are facing criminal charges before state and federal courts. Briana also practices before the Board of Immigration Appeals and the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals. In addition to her removal defense practice, Briana represents individuals before state courts in Virginia for custody proceedings in the pursuit of special immigrant juvenile status and represents clients before U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services for their affirmative applications. Briana has presented on immigration consequences of criminal convictions at the Maryland Office of the Public Defender Conference. She received her Juris Doctorate degree from American University - Washington College of Law. In law school her coursework focused on immigration law, she participated in the Women and the Law Clinic, interned for the Honorable Michael L. Rankin before the Superior District Court of the District of Columbia, and completed several internships with immigration non-profits and law firms in the D.C. metropolitan area. Briana is admitted to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia, the Eastern District of Virginia, and the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals. She is an active member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA). She is a liaison to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement for the D.C. Chapter of AILA.

Mariah is an associate attorney at Calderón Seguin PLC. Ofelia L. Calderón

Ofelia L. Calderón is a founding partner at Calderón Seguin PLC. In addition to maintaining a diverse practice which includes family, naturalization, business, and asylum, Ofelia concentrates on federal matters and removal cases. Outside her practice, Ofelia is a fervent advocate for the immigration community and has frequently taken her support and knowledge to various community forums. She has spoken to neighborhood associations on the rights of non-citizens in the U.S. and has also presented before local and regional courts on the impact of criminal sentencing for non-citizens. Ofelia is on the Advisory Council of Legal Aid Justice Center, while maintaining membership with the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), the National Immigration Project, CAIR Coalition, and the Virginia Women Attorneys Association. She also served as past President of the Hispanic Bar Association of Virginia Through her membership with AILA, Ofelia served as the DC chapter chair of the liaison committee to the Executive Office for Immigration Review in Arlington, Virginia for more than 5 years. Ofelia has been invited to speak as a panelist at numerous AILA National and Chapter Conferences, AILA National Web Seminars, the National Immigration Project Fall Conference in Portland, Oregon, and various state and local seminars. Ofelia also contributes her time to the Board of Immigration Appeals Pro Bono Screening Project and has worked closely with numerous local non-profits to provide affordable legal advice to the community at large. Scott Seguin is a founding partner of the firm of Calderón Seguin PLC. He has been practicing criminal law for over a decade and has represented thousands of criminal clients throughout Virginia in both the state and federal court systems. Scott has experience handling cases ranging from speeding infractions to murder trials and has secured acquittal of clients facing the possibility of life in prison. Scott has also been successful in overturning criminal convictions for clients who were not advised by their attorneys of the immigration consequences of their criminal convictions. Additionally, he has obtained pardons for clients in cases where their prior criminal convictions had a negative impact on their immigration status. Scott has also successfully argued to overturn criminal convictions before the Virginia Court of Appeals. Scott also has extensive experience and brings a results-oriented approach to the field of domestic law. He understands that issues of divorce, child custody, and support are difficult for clients and their families. When appropriate, Scott works diligently to forge compromise amongst the parties to reduce both the stress and cost of custody and divorce proceedings.
