While a member of staff in Leicester University's computer department, I worked on user guides and software manuals. Later I became a science desk editor for a publisher, Thomas Nelson, attending in-service training courses at the London College of Printing and at Watford College of Printing. My role at Nelson included copy-editing and proofreading books in biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, and computing; I also abridged one book and co-authored another.
