Diatomite is mined from a soft, pale grey rock formed in ancient lakes from fossilized algae. Mintabie® and Dia-Min® branded diatomite products are processed from a freshwater deposit situated in the southern mallee farming area of SA. Diatomite (chemical name: amorphous silicon dioxide) from this mine has been scientifically analysed and is classified as food grade. Our diatomite is sun dried and natural milled retaining its amorphous (non-crystalline) structure... Australian freshwater diatomite is now available in South Australia as a superfine powder (<20µ) which is a natural organic, non-toxic, chemical free insecticide. It is a completely safe parasite and pest control product for use on livestock, poultry, grain, and in horticulture and market gardening.
