ISL is a full-service general insurance brokerage with offices in Peterborough, Ontario. Our company's humble beginnings date all the way back to the 1940s when founders, Roy Irwin and Bruce Sargent, began a friendship in the city of Peterborough. In 1949, Roy and Bruce decided to form a partnership to market general insurance, which they named Irwin and Sargent. After one year of operation, it became necessary to seek larger accommodations and the business was moved to its present location at the northwest corner of Brock and Water Streets, in Peterborough. In 1955, the partnership was expanded to include John Lowes and the business continued to grow. A private company, renamed Irwin, Sargent & Lowes Limited, was formed in 1960 and continues to operate today as ISL..
