Abbey has been at Village Vets since May 2007, most of this time as Head Receptionist. February 2019 has seen her move over to North Wales Veterinary Team as Referral Administrator. She lives with her husband Steve and has two grown up children, Adam and Ellie. Abbey has two dogs, Meg and Poppy and a cat called Horace who was taken in as a stray.

Dr. Catherine Sturgeon

Job Titles:

Catherine graduated from the Royal Veterinary College, London in 1994. After 11 years in general practice, Catherine decided to focus just on soft tissue surgery and became a RCVS and ECVS specialist in Soft Tissue Surgery. Catherine is an active member and president (2017-2019) of the Association of Veterinary Soft Tissues Surgeons (AVSTS) and has recently been invited to lecture for the Australian Veterinary Association in Perth. Catherine has worked for two large referral centres in the Northwest and now offers her expertise to North Wales Veterinary Referral patients on a regular basis.

Dr. Jerry Shimali

Jerry graduated from the University of Liverpool in 1995. Following graduation, he spent twelve years in small animal and equine practice. During his time in practice he gained the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons Certificate in Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging. In 2007 he returned to the University of Liverpool to undertake a residency in Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging. Jerry completed his residency training and became a European Specialist in Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging in 2011. Jerry provides a peripatetic imaging service at North Wales Veterinary Referrals.

Dr. Rachel James

Rachel graduated from Cambridge in 1999 and after working for four years in general practice she moved to the University of Liverpool to undertake a residency in cardiology. She became a specialist in veterinary cardiology in 2008 and after a period of time in a busy referral hospital, Rachel moved to the University of Nottingham as Associate Professor in Cardiology. During the last decade Rachel has lectured internationally, been involved in numerous research studies and published widely in the veterinary literature. Rachel has previously been the secretary for the European society of Veterinary Cardiology and is the current supplements editor for the Journal of Small Animal Practice. Rachel hosts a weekly cardiology clinic at North Wales Veterinary Referrals.

Dr. Tom Roberts

Tom graduated from the University of Liverpool in 2008 and joined a busy mixed practice in North Wales. During his time in practice, Tom developed a passion for surgery and enrolled onto the RCVS Certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice. Tom was awarded the RCVS Certificate in Advance Veterinary Practice (CertAVP) in 2016. In the Autumn of 2016 Tom founded North Wales Veterinary Referrals aiming to provide an advanced level of veterinary service to North Wales and the surrounding areas. Evie Jones

Since Evie started her nursing training she has always enjoyed surgical nursing and anaesthesia. Since qualifying in July 2013 Evie has been part of a busy first opinion practice and completed a part time surgical nursing locum position in a referral hospital. Her main interests include pain management, anaesthesia, scrubbed in surgical nursing and radiography. Evie's passion for animals continues outside of work and enjoys riding around the countryside on her horse Toby and taking her dog, Moss, to agility training.

Geoff Skerritt

Job Titles:
  • Veterinary Surgeon
Geoff lectured in anatomy and neurology for 21 years before going into private practice in 1993. He is a founding Diplomat of the European College of Veterinary Neurology and a past president of this organisation. He also served on the RCVS Council for twelve years. In addition to this he established Vet MRI, which was the world's first mobile MR scanning facility for small animals Geoff's most recent publication with Ian Elliott, the 'Handbook of Small Animal MRI' has been very popular and is now on the recommended reading list of the European College of Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging. Geoff has particular interests in neurosurgery, epilepsy, spinal surgery and spinal disease, Chiari-like malformations and MR Imaging.

Jo Williams

Works at our Meadowbank branch, she has been with Village Vets since 2004. She qualified as a nurse in 2010, went on to do a further qualification in ‘Companion Animal Behaviour' in 2011, and then to qualify as a ‘Class IV Therapeutic Laser therapist' in 2012, which she now spends biggest part of the day doing. She has a keen interest in Rehabilitation and runs all the Laser / Rehab clinics. In her spare time, Jo has a cocker spaniel called Cookie, a small herd of German Shepherd Dogs, 2 of which have Champion certificates at Crufts and a horse called Bea to keep her busy.

Lyndsey Jones Hydrotherapist

Lyndsey joined the Village Vets Hydrotherapy team in October 2016. She loves all animals but her heart in particular belongs to dogs. She became passionate about hydrotherapy and canine rehabilitation after her Sheltie Cassi suffered from hip dysplasia and luxating patellas. Lyndsey owns, breeds and shows her 4 Japanese Spitzes, she competes with them all across the country - including at Crufts! When Lyndsey was 14, she started running her own "not for profit" dog training school which has won a number of awards.

Nicola Ellett Hydrotherapist

Nicola has been with Village Vets Hydrotherapy since June 2016 where she started on a work experience basis and has since worked her way up to become the hydrotherapy manager. She has a Level 3 in Hydrotherapy for Small Animals and a Level 3 in Animal Management. She has two adorable dogs, a 12-year-old Rhodesian Ridgeback called Khan and an 8-year-old Doberman/Alsatian cross called Coco.
