THE RELIANT MOTOR COMPANY

The most popular car built by The Reliant Motor Company was the Robin, so much so that many people refer to any Reliant as a Reliant Robin (or even Robin Reliant). The Robin was first introduced in 1973 at a time when small cars were becoming increasingly popular due to the rising price of petrol, but by the time it was introduced Reliant had already been making cars for 20 years. However, the company goes back even further, to the mid 1930's in fact, when they began making small 3 wheeled vans that were to prove very popular with small businesses and shops around the country. Looking very similar to a motorcycle with a van body, these vehicles were the sole Reliant product prior to them making their first Regal car in 1952 and provided the foundation for a company that was to become the second largest car producer in Britain.
