ELIM RHEUMATIC CENTRE - Key Persons

Dr EUGENE LIM

Job Titles:
  • Rheumatologist
Eugene Lim obtained his basic medical degree and his postgraduate qualification in Internal Medicine in 1990 and 1996 respectively from NUS. After undergoing Rheumatology training at Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) leading to specialty accreditation in 2000, he left for private practice. He pioneered Rheumatology's interest in musculoskeletal ultrasound in Singapore, and pursued further training leading to accreditations as a EULAR musculoskeletal ultrasound trainer as well as a World Institute of Pain (WIP) certified interventional pain sonologist. He considers advanced imaging as an important adjunct to early diagnosis, and to guide therapeutic intervention. He applies ultrasound to optimise the management of patients he sees on a daily basis with Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA), Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS), Psoriatic Arthritis (PsA), Lupus (SLE), Gout and Osteoarthritis (OA). Immunology fascinates him, drawing him to niche areas like Reproductive Immunology and Onco-Immunotherapy immune-related adverse events (irAEs). His current focus is on developing core rheumatological competency in interventional pain management and regenerative therapy for degenerative rheumatic conditions such as Osteoarthritis and Soft Tissue Rheumatism. His management philosophy, "Fast and Furious, Treat to Target, with Whatever It Takes", characterises his approach to the inflammatory arthritides and autoimmune diseases. This has resulted in "cure" (drug-free remission) in some patients with rheumatic diseases, and "full control" (clinical remission) of disease activity or functional pain relief in most if not all patients under his individualised care.
