Hi there, here's a little about myself. I'll start by pointing out that I'm a first year student. I've spent my entire life in the same area: for eighteen years, I lived in a suburb of Denver, Colorado called Aurora. More than fifty percent of my graduating high school class was comprised of people I'd known since I was five years old: kids that I'd gone to school with for thirteen years.
By the time I graduated I felt like I knew everyone in Colorado or at least Denver, so I made the decision to invite change into my early adult life by attending The University of New Hampshire which is more than two thousand miles away from home, and oh my, has it been an adjustment.
As Managing Editor, I'm excited to create blog posts that teach us all to embrace change, promote community involvement, healthy living, and that contribute a familiar comfort to the Wildcat community.
I am embarrassed to admit I hadn't heard about the Cooperative Extension until just this summer when I interned at the Carroll County Office up in Conway, NH. As a soon to be senior studying environmental conservation and sustainability, I was on the prowl for an internship where I could apply my skills in the field while also continuing to learn from qualified professionals in their area. This is what I found with the Coop.
I trekked through woods of Ossipee marking timber with County Forester, Wendy Scribner one day, and led a troop of GPS wielding kids to uncover geocaches with 4-H program coordinator Amanda Royce, the next. Not to mention the amount of free time spent hiking while living in Conway, this past summer has been one of my most memorable yet. It is because of the great people I've met and things I've learned that I wanted to contribute to this blog.
Hannah was the first writer of UNH Cooperative Extension's blog "New Hampshire in Our Hands," now unhEXTlife. During the summer of her writing she as a senior English/International Affairs major at the University of New Hampshire. Born and raised in Nashua, NH, Hannah has lived in the Granite State for 21 years. She recently spent a semester eating bread and speaking Spanish in Granada, Spain. (As much as she loved living another language for four and a half months, she's relieved that this blog is in English.) She loves mogul skiing, storytelling, dystopian fiction, stand-up comedy, and practicing yoga next to friends. She writes a personal blog, hannahandjulie.com
