Adrienne Brown

Job Titles:

Adrienne supports implementation of the AFi by managing programme operations and working with local partners to apply the Accountability Framework in tropical regions. Adrienne has a background in international development. Prior to joining the Rainforest Alliance, she worked with the UN to integrate sustainability into conflict and disaster response. She is based outside of Portland, Maine, USA, where she enjoys exploring the coastline with her family.

Alona Rivord

Job Titles:

Alona heads the AFi's communications team and leads communications strategy, messaging, and content development. She brings more than twelve years of experience in conservation and sustainability communications from roles at NGOs and private companies. Alona has also worked in media for over eleven years and has earned numerous prestigious journalism awards. She lives in the San Francisco Bay Area and enjoys the arts, travel, and volunteering.

Jeff Milder

Job Titles:
  • Director ( Rainforest Alliance )
Jeff has directed the AFi since its inception in 2016. He has a background in landscape ecology and community-based land use planning. In prior roles, Jeff led Rainforest Alliance's science and impacts team and worked as a researcher and policy advisor on sustainable agriculture and biodiversity conservation in Latin America and East Africa. He lives in New York and makes time for hobbies including camping, ethnic cooking, and family bike trips.

Jennifer Toes

Job Titles:
  • Senior Communications Associate ( Rainforest Alliance )
Based in the UK, Jen is responsible for managing the AFi's owned media, including the website, newsletter, and social media. Jen brings previous experience in sustainability communications from the materials sector and has also held roles in scientific research and public policy. She holds an MSc in Science Communication and a BSc in Biology.

John Ehrmann

John advises on the AFi's strategy and supports external relations with key stakeholders. As co-founder of the Meridian Institute and managing partner for 20 years, John has led numerous multi-stakeholder efforts on a wide range of sustainability issues, including crafting innovative approaches to greening supply chains. He lives in Colorado, USA, and enjoys spending time with his grandchildren, skiing, running, and serving on volunteer boards.

Juliana Lopes

Karen Steer

Job Titles:

Karen supports companies, industry associations, and multi-stakeholder initiatives to apply the Accountability Framework. This includes the development of guidance, tools, and other resources. She also coordinates the AFi Coalition and Private Sector Advisory Group. Karen has a background in social ecology, community-based natural resource management, and certification. She spends her free time adventuring around her home in Oregon, USA.

Leah Samberg

Job Titles:
  • Lead Scientist ( Rainforest Alliance )
Leah heads the AFi's work to develop and align practical metrics for responsible supply chains, and to embed these metrics broadly through different monitoring and accountability systems. She also leads the AFi's work on land sector carbon emissions and engagements with carbon and climate initiatives. Leah's background is in agroecology, food systems, and remote sensing. In her free time, she enjoys backcountry skiing, trail running, and other outdoor adventures around her home in Montana, USA.

Lisanne Hekman

Based in Amsterdam, Lisanne is responsible for the AFi's knowledge management. This includes monitoring use of the Accountability Framework by companies and other organisations. Previously, Lisanne worked on business and human rights in the Netherlands and Cambodia. She also has a background in impact measurement. In her free time, Lisanne enjoys hiking, travelling, surfing, photography, and solving logic puzzles.

Lucie Smith

Niall Robb

Job Titles:
  • Technical Manager ( Rainforest Alliance )
Niall leads and supports on content development, technical analysis, and stakeholder engagement in order to expand and refine the Accountability Framework. He also works on improving the Framework's set of common metrics for assessing company performance related to ethical supply chains. His background is in agricultural land use, geospatial data, and corporate disclosure on forest-related issues. Based in Scotland, he spends his free time watching live music, supporting Hibernian F.C., and walking his dog Fergus.

Sam Levy

Job Titles:
  • Science and Policy Fellow ( Rainforest Alliance )
Sam leads and supports AFi's work on defining, assessing, and analysing non-forest natural ecosystems and their conversion for commodity production. This role includes contributing to scientific analyses, collaborating with AFi partners and experts, and assisting AFi strategy, stakeholder engagement, and product development. Sam's background is in land systems and supply chain sustainability, having previously worked at environmental consultancies, NGOs, and in academia. He lives in New York City where he enjoys cooking, cycling, and printmaking in his free time.

Tim Mealey

Job Titles:

Tim is the AFi's lead facilitator, guiding collaboration and decision-making by the AFi coalition. In addition to his role at the Meridian Institute, he is president and CEO of Polaris Insights, Inc. Tim has 40 years of experience designing and facilitating policy dialogues, multi-party negotiations, and strategy development on topics including climate change, sustainable supply chains, forest management, and food systems. Tim lives in Maryland, USA, where he enjoys kayaking, biking, and spending time with family.
