Ana Marambio is a dancer and movement tutor. She started her training in modern dance in her native Chile. After moving to New York, she spent several years training independently in the experimental dance scene, performing with several choreographers and groups alongside creating and performing her own works. In 2010 she came to the UK where she founded Nyctolopic, a company working with dancers and actors to merge movement with theatre. As artistic director of Nyctolopic, Ana co-created, choreographed, and directed The City Will Crumble, in collaboration with composer David Holyoake and journalist Martin Sandbu. This full-evening piece enjoyed Arts Council-funded productions in London and Brighton in 2012 and 2013.
Ana's association with RCSSD started with her MA in Movement (Directing and Teaching), which she completed in 2015. She was subsequently part of the RCSSD's International Community of Movement's team that collaborated with the Courtauld Gallery for the exhibition Rodin and Dance: The Essence of Movement (October 2016-January 2017). She is the co-author (with Rachel Nouchi) of ‘Understanding Visual Arts Through Movement', a research paper based on the Rodin project for the 2017 neuroscience conference ‘Movement: Brain, Body and Cognition', Oxford, UK. She is currently a visiting lecturer at the RCSSD for the MA Advance Theatre Practice, Summer Short Courses, Gap Year and Acting diploma. She is also an associate tutor at Guildford School of Acting, working with BA Acting and MFA Acting students.
Before her RCSSD Masters, Ana pursued postgraduate studies in Physical Theatre at the Royal Holloway University of London. In 2011, Ana movement directed for productions of "Weak Edward" by Constanza Hola at The Rose Bankside Theatre in London and The Brighton Fringe Festival.
