Gary and Barb Bechtel met at the diner, courted in and around it, and even had their rehearsal dinner there prior to their October 29 2016 wedding! Gary spent 32 years in the supply industry selling bread and supplies for Eds Bread while Barb started at Schwartz's Chuck Wagon at 15 and waitressed her way through college getting a business and marketing degree which is now in full use... Gary and Barb should have met in 1978, not 2015... Things would've turned out differently. But God is in charge and had different plans. Barb took over sole control of the Plainwell Diner in June of 2016. They tore it down and the adjoining bait shop in May 2017. Construction from the ground up began June 14, 2017 and they were painting and tiling on the three month date of construction. Barb was the general contractor and took care finding farm antiques, Plainwell memorabilia, and vintage signs. A hunk of the Plainwell bowling alley, metal tin ceiling tile from T.G.I. Friday's as well as a 1939 World..
