Adam Akin started his coaching career as an assistant coach at Rend Lake College after a stellar playing career as a middle infielder for The University of Indianapolis. A native of Evansville, Indiana and Evansville North High School, he ended his Greyhound career ranked in the school's Top 10 of eight offensive categories, including runs, hits, doubles, triples, total bases, and RBIs. Akin earned all-conference and academic honors while helping UIndy to 115 wins in three seasons after starting all 52 games as a freshman at Rend Lake College.
In 2011, Akin took over as the Assistant Head Coach and Recruiting Coordinator at Kentucky Wesleyan College. There, he helped take the program from 16 wins to 31 within 3 years and finished his time in Owensboro by helping to break the school's single-season record for wins in 2016 (36). In 2015, the Panthers' offense led the NCAA Division II Midwest Region in average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, doubles, home runs, and HBP, while finishing second in runs and RBIs. Akin coached multiple All-Region and All-American players, including Jordan White, Jonathan Eberhardt, Josh Galvan, Dennon Koziol, Matt Pobereyko, and Troy Paris.
Following his tenure with Kentucky Wesleyan, Akin spent time as both the Scouting Director for Prep Baseball Report Tennessee and an Associate Scout with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Through these experiences, he has built up an extensive network of coaching contacts and acquaintances throughout the country.
Akin graduated from The University of Indianapolis with a Bachelor's Degree in Sports Management in 2010, while adding a Master's Degree in Sports Administration from Liberty University in 2012.

Andrew "Drew" MacBean joined Combine Academy in... View Bio
Andrew "Drew" MacBean joined Combine Academy in January 2021 as the Head Golf Coach.
Originally from Vorhees, New Jersey, Drew attended Campbell University where he enrolled in Campbell's PGA Golf Management Program, one of just 18 PGA-accredited golf management programs in the U.S. He also received his Master of Education in Coaching and Leadership from Greenville University in 2017.
Drew began his coaching career at Erskine College as an Assistant Coach, followed by a stint at the University of North Carolina - Pembroke, also as an assistant. Drew's first head coaching job was at Alcorn State University in Lorman, Mississippi, followed by stints at Marion Military Institute in Marion, Alabama, and Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi.
Drew is a PGA Class A-12 Professional, a member of the Golf Coaches Association of America. He has various certifications, including: The Mental Game, the Golf Machine, and Titleist Performance Institute. Drew stays up to date on the latest in golf coaching and education by regularly attending workshops and continuing education programs.
Drew believes in a transformational coaching style, focusing on education, player development, game-based training, enjoying the journey, and of course, winning.

Coach Johnson has over 20 years coaching experience on different levels such as Prep High School (Southern Carolina Prep, Evelyn Mack & Liberty Heights) and AAU (EA Prep Stars, Grind Academy & Team United) to name a few. Over the years Coach Johnson has been able to coach many young athletes with many going on to the college and professional level while still maintaining great relationships with each player. Coach works closely with student-athletes on skill development, learning the integral parts of the game while tying back to life.
Coach Johnson has over 15 years of experience working in the mental health field and housing the homeless population throughout North Carolina. Coach Johnson is a graduate of North Carolina A&T State University with a BS in Fitness & Wellness/Management. Coach Johnson has 4 wonderful children.

In the summer of 2019, Combine Academy, a 43-acre boarding school located in Lincolnton, North Carolina, sent shockwaves through the prep industry when they announced the hiring of 12 year NBA veteran Jeff McInnis to oversee the high school basketball program. Just nine months later, the Goats have done it again with the announcement of hiring former Collegiate National Championship Head Coach Bob Reasso to take the helms of the Combine Academy Soccer program.
Reasso spent a majority of his 30+ year hall of fame career as the head coach at NCAA Division I Rutgers University. Then, in 2013, Reasso was appointed as Head Coach at Pfeiffer University, located in Misenheimer, North Carolina. Prior to Reasso's arrival at Pfeiffer, the Falcons soccer program only managed to win one game in the previous year. However, with Reasso on board, the Falcons would go from the bottom of the conference to champions in three years by winning the NCAA Division II National Championship in 2015. Over the course of his career, Reasso was a two-time National Coach of the Year, led teams to 16 NCAA tournament appearances, 4 final four appearances, 2 national championship appearances, and compiled a record of 436-209-79. During his coaching career, Reasso has coached 60 players that have gone on to play professionally, with 24 of those players playing in the MLS, and 24 NCAA All-Americans. Included in that group are Peter Vermes, current Manager at Sporting KC, and Alexi Lalas, former US Men's National Team player and current Fox Sports soccer analyst.

Buete has coaching experience both at the collegiate and prep levels, as well as summer ball. He served as a Graduate assistant coach for Tusculum Univeristy in 2023 where he assisted with hitters and recruiting. Previously, he served as the head coach at Topsail High School in 2022 where he led the Hampstead, N.C. program to its first winning season since 2017, while advancing to the NCHSAA Playoffs for the first time in five years. Topsail advanced to the Elite Eight in the 4A State Tournament. Three of his players earned All-Conference honors and he was named the Pender Post and Voice Male Coach of the Year.
He served as hitting coach and recruiting coordinator during the 2020-2021 academic year at Southeastern Community College. He served as third base coach as Southeastern finished in the top-three in the conference in extra base hits and team batting average (.290).
He began his coaching career at Hoggard High School in Wilmington, N.C. where he was an assistant coach while mentoring the oufielders. He coached the varsity and junior varsity programs.He was also responsible for pitchers on the junior varsity team. His pitching staff posted a 3.02 staff earned run average including a starting rotation which logged a 2.26 ERA.

David graduated in the spring of 2023 with a Bachelor's degree in Sports Management from Belmont Abbey College. In his final season, Belmont Abbey finished 41-18, reaching a Super Regional while playing in arguably the best Division 2 conference in the country. David's last two seasons of his collegiate career were derailed by a rotator cuff tear.
During the summer of 2022, David showcased his commitment to both work and personal development by joining the team at X2 Athletics in Concord, NC.
The following summer, David was at the Florida Baseball ARMory in Lakeland, FL, where he further increased his knowledge as part of the coaching staff. This hands-on involvement allowed him to refine his coaching abilities and gain invaluable insights into the intricacies of baseball. David's journey is underscored by a clear vision and career aspirations aimed at reaching the professional level.

This is Jack McNellis' first year at Combine Academy. Jack is a pitching coach for the Combine Global Baseball team.
McNellis played two years at Riverland Community College (Austin, MN) where he earned his AA and Athletic Coaching Certification. In his time at Riverland, they were nationally ranked in the top 10 both years 2017, 2018.)
After Riverland, McNellis played at Salem University (Salem, WV), where he led his team in innings in relief (2019).
Since then, McNellis has played for the Tucson Saguaros and the Roswell Invaders of the Pecos League winning two Pecos League Championships (2020, 2022.)
McNellis has been the pitching coach for USA Prime Baseball for 3 years (2021, 2022, 2023) while finishing his degree in sports management.

Jeff Birkofer is entering his third season at Combine...View Bio
Jeff Birkofer is entering his third season at Combine Academy. He will serve as the Director of Baseball and Recruiting Coordinator. Coach Birkofer spent the 2020-2021 season as Head Coach of the High School Baseball Team. Before Combine Academy, Coach Birkofer spent two seasons at Walters State Community College in Morristown, Tennessee where he assisted with recruiting and coached the infielders and hitters.
While at Walters State CC, Coach Birkofer helped the 2019 team to a TCCAA Regular Season Championship, a TCCAA Tournament Championship, an East Central District Championship and also a 3rd place finish at the Alpine Bank Junior College World Series in Grand Junction, Colorado. Also, in 2019, Coach Birkofer coached five players that were named All-TCCAA First Team, an infielder that was named an NJCAA Third Team All American (Bryce Hodge) and an infielder that was named NJCAA All American Honorable Mention (Jerry Hammons). Coach Birkofer also assisted in developing several players to achieve their goals of playing high level Division I Baseball and Professional Baseball.
Before Walters State, Coach Birkofer played at Columbia State Community College and Morehead State University from 2010 to 2014. He played for the Evansville Otters of the Frontier League in the summer of 2015 before beginning his coaching career at Morehead State.
As a coach at Morehead State, Coach Birkofer coached the outfielders and assisted with all defensive positions and the hitters. He helped the Eagles advance to the 2018 NCAA Tournament after winning the Ohio Valley Conference tournament championship. Coach Birkofer graduated from Morehead State University in 2015 with a bachelor's degree in Sport Management and received his master's degree in Sport Management in the summer of 2019.
A native of Cincinnati, OH, Coach Birkofer graduated from Oak Hills High School in 2009. He currently lives in Lincolnton, NC.

Coach Burchett begins his 1st year at Combine Academy after spending 30 years as a teacher/coach for the Mooresville Graded School District. As a native of Mooresville, NC, he attended, played and coached the "Blue Devils" from Mooresville High School. During his time at Mooresville he built one of the strongest programs throughout the state, placing 70+ players at the college level, including several MLB draft picks.
Along the way Coach Burchett has achieved many awards such as Conference, County, Region, and State Coach of the year when his team won the 2019 NC 4A State Championship. With close to 400 victories at the HS level, Coach looks to bring his knowledge, experience, and game strategies to his players to help build a winning attitude on and off the field of play. For the "GOATS" he will serve as infield coordinator and Head Coach of the Global Team at Combine Academy.

Jonah Baize has spent a lifetime of dedication to business, philanthropy, the sport of basketball, and student athlete/youth development. He competed at the highest level of High School basketball with Veritas Christian Academy, where he led them to be NACA Runner-up National Champions. Baize went on to complete an extremely successful collegiate playing career at the highest level of Collegiate Basketball in the ACC. Jonah Baize (pronounced BAYZ) played from 2007-11 at Clemson University where he was a member of four teams that advanced to the NCAA Tournament, a first in school history. During 3 of his 4 years at Clemson, Baize shared the court with his teammate and future business partner, Trevor Booker, a retired 8-year veteran of the NBA. Upon graduation, Baize immediately went on to play professionally abroad in the Bahrain Premiere League where he joined the likes of American imports C.J. Giles (Los Angeles Lakers) and Darius Rice (Miami Heat). Upon his return to the United States, Jonah took a Major Division 1 College Coaching Position at his Alma-Mater, Clemson University. At Clemson, Baize served vital roles in recruiting, player development, and academic oversight. During the 2012-2013 season, Jonah was a quintessential factor in developing the 32nd overall 2014 NBA Draft Pick by the Philadelphia 76ers, K.J. McDaniels.
After Booker was drafted in the 1st round of the 2010 NBA Draft and Baize finished his playing career, the duo went on to Co-Found JB Fitzgerald, a multi-faceted Family Office with divisions in Real Estate, Sports & Entertainment, Venture Capital, and Business Advisory. Among the dozens of portfolio companies underneath JB Fitzgerald are Combine Academy and an ownership stake in the MLS Club DC United. Baize continues to serve as the President of Combine Academy and the President & Managing Partner of JB Fitzgerald and resides in Charlotte, NC with his family.

Kurt Wessler was named the General Manager and Athletic Director at Combine Academy on June 1, 2022 after having served as the Associate Head of School and History Department Chair for the past two years. Coach Wessler brings a strong athletic and academic background to his new positions within Combine Academy.
Coach Wessler achieved tremendous success in multiple sports as a coach in Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools.. As an assistant baseball coach, under Gary Smith at Providence High School, he was an integral part of the 1995 State Championship team. In 1997, he took over as the first head basketball coach in the history of Vance High School (now Chamber HS). He proceeded to win a state title in 2003 and won 229 games over a 14-year career as head coach at Vance and later Butler HS in Matthews, NC. His teams won 1 state title, had 3 regional appearances, participated in 6 sectional finals, and won 10 conference titles. He was blessed with the opportunity to help place over 50 students in college to further their playing and academic careers, among them Antawn Jamison (UNC), Demontez Stitt (Clemson), and Patrick Wessler (Virginia Tech).
Before joining Combine in August 2020, Kurt worked for 29 years in the Charlotte Mecklenburg School System, distinguishing himself as a teacher and coach. He was twice recognized as a Star Teacher of the Year by Time Warner Cable. His AP World and AP United States students annually outperformed their peers across the US on their respective AP College Board tests. Coach Wessler is also recognized as a National Board-Certified Teacher and served for many years as a Master Teacher for CMS, a role in which he tutored other teachers within the system.
Mr. Wessler is a graduate of Northwest Cabarrus High School, where he played both basketball and baseball, being named all-conference in both sports. He played baseball at USC-Spartanburg (now USC Upstate) before transferring to Appalachian State University, where he majored in History/Secondary Education. Mr. Wessler has been married for over 25 years to his wife Colleen and has two children; Gianna a junior at NC State University and Patrick a freshman at Virginia Polytechnic Institute.

Mat Williamson joined the Combine Academy staff in the fall of 2014. After coming on as National Head Coach and General Manager for the 1st two years of his time at Combine Academy, he has spent the last 4 years primarily in the General Manager role with a focus on business development. Combine Academy has gone through drastic changes under his watch as Williamson was the lead in starting and developing Combine Academy's high school, getting Combine Academy NCAA approved, and earning national accreditation. In 2017, Williamson led the search and development of Combine Academy's current campus located at 270 Car Farm Road in Lincolnton, NC. Since the acquisition of the campus, Combine Academy has developed a new gymnasium, Sports Performance Center, indoor batting cages, speed and agility center, sports medicine athletic training room, along with multiple student housing facilities, including a brand-new dormitory.
In 2019, Williamson once again took the lead in the approval of I-20 status, which allows Combine Academy to issue student visas to international students. During his time as General Manager, Combine Academy has gone from a post grad basketball program, to a national boarding school that features basketball, baseball, soccer, and golf, which has attracted the likes of NBA Veteran Jeff McInnis and NCAA National Champion soccer coach Bob Reasso to join the staff.
Mat Williamson came to Combine Academy after spending the previous 6 years coaching in the college ranks. Prior to Combine Academy, Williamson served as Assistant Men's Basketball Coach at NCAA Division II Newberry College and Division I NJCAA Gordon College.
While at Gordon, Coach Williamson helped build a program from the ground up and served a key role in making Gordon College a National Power. In his time at Gordon College, the program saw new heights as they were eventually crowned GCAA Conference Champions, NJCAA Region 17 & District 13 Champions, and made an appearance at the National Tournament in 2012. Williamson played a large part in the development of Junior College All-American Jarvis Williams (Murray State), two time GCAA leading scorer Malcolm Jackson, 2012 GCAA Tournament MVP Ryan Fleming, and All-Conference guard Marquis Barnes. From January 2013 to November of 2014, Williamson served as Assistant Men's Basketball Coach at Newberry College (NCAA DII) in Newberry, SC. Williamson's duties at Newberry consisted of player development, student-athlete academic progress, video coordinator, evaluating and recruiting prospective student-athletes, and game day operations. Williamson played a key role in a growth that saw Newberry finish 2nd in the nation in scoring, 3rd in the nation in steals per game, and 3rd in the nation in 3pt FGs made per game. Furthermore, Williamson propelled Newberry to have back-to-back winning seasons for the first time in 30 years.

Matt Morris joined Combine Academy in 2015 and has served as Vice President since that time. In addition to his day-to-day role as Vice President, Morris has been an instrumental part of the growth and success of Combine Academy through his wealth of industry contacts and his International recruiting efforts.
Prior to Combine Academy, Morris served as assistant coach at Clayton State University (NCAA D2) from 2013-2015. At Clayton State, Morris was instrumental in both recruiting, on-floor coaching, and scouting opponents. Morris helped recruit and develop several players that earned All-Peach Belt Conference accolades. Before joining Clayton State, Morris served as Director of Operations/Assistant Coach at Wofford College (NCAA D1) from 2011-2013. At Wofford, Morris coached several players that were named to the All-SoCon Team, along with one player that was named to the Academic All-American Team for the 2012-2013 season.
Morris attended Clemson University, where he graduated in 2008 with a B.S. in Marketing. Morris was a four-year letterman for the Men's Basketball team at Clemson. He began his career as a walk-on before earning a scholarship for his Junior and Senior years. While at Clemson, Morris was named to the ACC All-Academic Team during the 2006-2007 season and to the ACC Academic Honor Roll in each of his four seasons. Morris held the record for most points scored in a single-season by an original walk-on when he graduated, a record that has now been broken.
After graduating from Clemson, Morris lived in France for 3 years, where he played professionally and served as head coach at a basketball boarding academy. At the academy, Morris recruited and developed several players that went on to earn scholarships to colleges in the US or secured professional contracts in Europe.
Morris was a five-year letterman in basketball at Andrews High School in South Carolina. He is still the school record holder for career made 3pt FG and FT%. Morris was a three-time 7A All-Region selection and earned AA All-State honors as a senior.

Coach Michael Wright begins his tenure as the Combine Academy National Head Coach, with a 300-104 career coaching record, with over 14 years of coaching experience at the high school & prep level. In his time as a coach, Coach Mike has had the opportunity to coach over 50 Division 1 & 2 players, including several nationally-ranked players & current/future professionals. Coach Wright has also led his teams to major accomplishments such as winning the 2022 Beach Ball Classic & 2022 Big Shots National Championship. Tudor Barna was born and raised in Romania where his professional soccer career took him to the second professional division. His exceptional playing abilities gained him the opportunity to be a part of the best XI in the state. Tudor led the high school futsal team, Nicoale Titiulescu, to a national semifinal as a captain. Upon his arrival in the United States, Tudor earned a bachelor's and graduate degree from Liberty University in Sport Management with an emphasis in Coaching and Administration.
Ms. Phillips joined Combine Academy this year after 4 years in the public school system in North Carolina. She earned her Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice and a minor in Biology from The University of North Carolina - Charlotte. She holds Advanced Placement Certifications (AP) for Earth and Environmental Science and Physics and will be expanding our course offerings in the Science Department. She is also the Director of Digital Learning and provides support to students on how to use the digital platform for education.
Nate Pausa graduated from Arcadia University in 2016 with a degree in sport psychology. Originally from Trieste, Italy, Nate played competitively until age 19, with his highest team achievement was reaching the National finals multiple times. Nate also spent one year in Williamsville, Illinois, as an exchange student, where he got a chance to be an assistant coach with both the men's soccer and basketball teams. This experience gave him motivation to come back to the United States to further his academic career, which brought him to Arcadia University.
During his college days Nate worked with the Richmond Knights in London, England; he was a coach at Eurocamp in Italy; and was a member of the coaching staff at Arcadia University, under the tutelage of current St. Joseph's assistant, Coach Justin Scott.
Nate has completed four years here at Combine Academy, where he has served as a Head Coach and mastered the Head Video Coordinator position for the GOATs. Nate has trained over 250 players in his four years here, spanning from the NBA and Euroleague summer trainees, to collegiate prospects of all levels. In his time working with the AAU, High School, and Postgrad players, Nate has contributed to getting over 150 athletes to a collegiate or professional level.

Nathan (Sasa) Regis was born and raised in Trinidad and Tobago. He accepted an opportunity to play soccer at Pfeiffer University under Head Coach Bob Reasso from 2013-2017. After two years working with the high school teams, Sam Pipes begins his third year at Combine Academy as assistant coach for Post Grad National as well as working with the National High School team. Born and raised in Seattle, Pipes earned Bachelors and Masters degrees from Gonzaga University (2017/2019) where he was a Graduate Assistant and gained experience in player development. Before Combine, coach Pipes spent time coaching in Lanzhou, China for United States Basketball Academy, as well as a year in the infamous metro league in Seattle.

Steve Jecewiz joined Combine Academy as the Executive Director and Head Post Graduate Basketball Coach in July 2019 following two seasons as an Assistant Men's Basketball Coach at Chowan University. While at Chowan, their 2018-19 team started the season 10-1, their best start in four-year school history, while also earning national top 25 votes for the first time.
Previously, Jecewiz spent two seasons as the Head Coach at Woodside High School in Newport News, VA where he compiled a 21-11 record. During the 2015-16 season, Jecewiz took over as Interim Head Coach as Woodside made the postseason. Woodside went on to win six straight contests on their way to Conference and Regional Championships before bowing out in the 6A State semifinals. Ten of Woodside's players would go on to play college basketball, with three playing at the Division 1 level.
Prior to Woodside, Jecewiz spent the 2014-15 season as the Assistant Post Graduate Basketball Coach/Recruiting Coordinator at Fishburne Military School. Fishburne was ranked as high as third in the country, with eight players earning scholarships at Division I programs.
Jecewiz was a Graduate Assistant for the Men's Basketball team at Hofstra University from 2012-2014. At Hofstra, Jecewiz assisted in day-to-day operations for the Pride. He managed the programs recruiting database, aided in opponent scouting, monitored academics, and assisted in team travel.
Prior to Hofstra, Jecewiz began his career at Providence College from 2008-2012, including serving as the programs head manager from 2009-2012. While at Providence, the Friars defeated six nationally ranked top 25 opponents, including a win against #1 Pittsburgh on February 24, 2009.
A native of New York City, Jecewiz earned a Bachelor's degree in Management from Providence in 2012 and an M.B.A. from Hofstra in 2014.

Tim Respass joined Combine Academy in August 2020 and is now the Head Regional basketball coach as well as the Summer Basketball Program Director. Prior to arriving at Combine, Respass most recently spent two and a half years in China coaching for the United States Basketball Academy. He spent two years in Chongqing where he served as Head Basketball Coach and was the District Director. After those two years he was promoted to Beijing to serve as the USBA South China Technical Director. In that role, he travelled across South China where he would train American coaches as well as run camps and skills clinics.
Respass attended Franklin Towne Charter HS in Philadelphia, PA. He also attended Bucks County Community College and Johnson State College in Vermont, playing two years of basketball at each school. He received an A.A. in Sports Management from Bucks County Community College as well as a B.A. in Business Management from Penn State Abington. Respass coached two years at each school as well as coaching at a prep school in Tennessee and working various camps across the US. He has worked as a coaching contributor with PhD Hoops and had spent four summers coaching with Global Squad AAU. Through Global Squad, he has gained experience coaching players from all over the world.

Tudor Barna was born and raised in Romania where his professional soccer career took him to the second professional division. His exceptional playing abilities gained him the opportunity to be a part of the best XI in the state. Tudor led the high school futsal team, Nicoale Titiulescu, to a national semifinal as a captain. Coach Tynan comes from an Olympic Weightlifting background. Having competed and coached in Olympic Weightlifting for seven years. He was on the Lenoir Rhyne University Olympic Weightlifting team, helping them to Win University National Championships for the Men's team in 2022.
Coach Tynan got the opportunity to work and train under two of the best Sports performance coaches in America. Travis Mash and Sean Rigsby, both have numerous Team USA athletes. Tynan got to assist Travis Mash with coaching numerous high level athletes along with running an online Strength and Conditioning Programming business.
Coach Tynan has personally coached two athletes from the ground up to being Nationally ranked athletes in the sport of Olympic Weightlifting. Tynan understands all aspects of Strength Training. Tynan is eager and committed to give the best strength and conditioning programming for all athletes he has the pleasure of coaching.
