DAVID H - Key Persons

Dr. David H. Haight has been involved with contact lens fitting of all types for over 30 years. He has servedas Co-chief of the Contact Lens Clinic at the Manhattan Eye, Ear & Throat Hospital and in that capacity has taught resident ophthalmologists techniques of lens fitting and proper followup care. He is often quoted in the print media as an authority on contact lenses and has been interviewed about them on WCBS AM radio. Dr. Haight has been offering contact lens services in his private practice since 1985. A wide variety of lenses are currently available. Following below is a brief summary of the more common types of lenses and their applications. Dr. David H. Haight attended Brown University from which he graduated Magma cum Laude in 1976. He earned his medical degree at Johns Hopkins University where he pursued his interest in ophthalmology by researching corneal transplant rejections. After graduating in 1980 he completed a residency in Ophthalmology at the Manhattan Eye, Ear & Throat Hospital in New York, followed by specialty training in corneal and anterior segment surgery with Dr. Richard Troutman. He served a portion of his fellowship in Colombia, South America where he studied with Dr. Jose Barraquer learning advanced refractive surgical techniques. Foremost among these were the keratomileusis techniques, which are the precursors to modern day LASIK. Upon completion of his training, Dr. Haight established a private practice specializing in corneal and refractive surgery. He is a Diplomat of the American Board of Ophthalmology and a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Dr. Haight has held several academic appointments including: • Surgeon Director at Manhattan Eye and Ear • Director of Refractive Surgery at Manhattan Eye and Ear • Co-chief of the Contact Lens Clinic at Manhattan Eye and Ear • Lecturer in Ophthalmology at Columbia University • Clinical Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology Weill Cornell Medical College • Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology NYU Langone School of Medicine Dr. Haight has served for over 20 years on the Medical Advisory Board of the New York Eye Bank for Sight Restoration including holding the position of Secretary of the Board. He has published articles on refractive surgery, taught courses locally and nationally and made over 100 presentations at meetings. He has appeared in New York Magazines best doctors list and has been featured on the CBS and NBC morning television programs. As a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmolgy Skills Transfer Committee, he has overseen the development of all the refractive surgery laboratory courses offered at its annual meeting. He is the recipient of the American Academy's Honor Award, and Seniorr Achievement in recognition of his contribution academic programs. In 1991, he became the Chief Coordinator for the Excimer Laser Study at the Manhattan Eye, Ear & Throat Hospital. In that capacity, he performed pioneering research that helped lead to FDA approval of the excimer. Dr. Haight continues to be involved in the development of this and related technologies.
