Meet Aren

With a degree in sales and marketing, Aren Evers worked in the newspaper industry for over 25 years, starting with community newspapers and then with national publications, including as an associate publisher of a magazine division. A return to school to pursue a degree in Design afforded her a more flexible schedule and the opportunity to give back to her community as a volunteer. At this time, she fortuitously noticed a "Volunteers Needed" sign in the Thrift Shop window. As someone born, raised, and now residing on the North Shore - it was the perfect fit. As Thrift Shop chair, Aren has helped implement new and creative marketing ideas. She and her dedicated team have increased the Thrift Shop revenues and helped the Auxiliary make significant financial donations to Lions Gate Hospital. And with special sales, sustainability programs, and public events such as fashion shows, the Thrift Shop has raised its community profile. Aren previously enjoyed sharing the Auxiliary Co-President position with Bob Morrison.

Meet Fatehali

Fatehali Janmohamed and his family emigrated from Nairobi, Kenya to Calgary, Alberta in early 1975. After 28 years of service, and several additional years of contract work, he began volunteering at the Calgary hospital in the Oncology department. Fatehali moved to Vancouver in November 2010 to be near his daughter and son-in-law, after the loss of his wife. Within three months, he started volunteering at Lions Gate Hospital and in 2013 was appointed as an Auxiliary Board director and assistant to the treasurer. Fatehali's passions include volunteering at Lions Gate Hospital and also within the Ismaili community. This has given him immense happiness and gratitude for the friends and connections he's made at the hospital and on the North Shore. Fatehali retired from the LGH Auxiliary Board in December 2021

Meet Lyn

After retiring from a 40-year career based in downtown Vancouver, Lyn Bailey felt a calling to volunteer in her new community of North Vancouver. In 2015, she joined the Lions Gate Hospital Auxiliary, helping out at the Information Desk and Thrift Shop. In 2016, she became a Board director and the Auxiliary's Special Events Coordinator, a role well suited to her professional background and skills. After attending UBC in the Faculty of Education, she began a career in Human Resources and started her own successful company. She also worked for an MLA in Victoria and at the Canadian Cancer Society, and has served on several boards, including the Downtown Vancouver Association and the Sunshine Coast Foundation. At this time of her life, she feels very fortunate and privileged to contribute to her community and to wake up happy every morning looking forward to volunteering at the hospital, her "second home." "How lucky am I!" she says with a smile.

Meet Susan

Susan joined the Auxiliary board as a director in February 2020. As of April 2020, Susan also assumed the role board secretary, a spot previously occupied by Tim Beasley. Susan moved to West Vancouver as a young child and raised her own family within that community. Over many years she has been an active volunteer with a number of North Shore organizations and has served on community advisory committees with the West Vancouver Municipality and with the Greater Vancouver Regional District (GVRD). Susan was a director on the first North Shore Regional Health Board. Retiring in 2018, Susan's 35-year professional career began in the hospital medical laboratory. After receiving her Masters in Health Care Leadership, Susan worked for many years in senior positions at the management and directorship level. Susan has teaching experience at both the University of British Columbia and the British Columbia Institute of Technology and has worked internationally on accreditation education and assessment of health care organizations. Susan remembers her mother, a Lions Gate Hospital Auxiliary Pink Lady (so called for the pink colored coats volunteers wore in those days), happily heading off to her LGH volunteer shifts while Susan and her siblings left for school in the mornings. While the uniform color and style has changed, Susan is pleased to carry on the family tradition and commitment to Lions Gate Hospital.
