SwedPedMed is a national non-profit non-juridical network of members from all medical specialties treating children with medicines and engaged in the development of medicines for children. The network provides support for paediatric drug development. The network mediates requests for drug research to potential and competent paediatric investigators, both academic and drug industry research... In Sweden about 100 000 children are born every year which means that 1.8 million children are living in Sweden today. The knowledge in children's medical treatment is still lacking that of adults. Pediatric pharmacotherapy relies largely on medicines intended for adult use and data on long-term effects, adverse effects, efficacy and safety in children is sparse.
