Andreas Bernhardt

Andreas Bernhardt is executive development advisor and lead coach at ESMT Berlin in Germany, founding member of ESMT's Center for Leadership Development Research, and manages ESMT's pool of executive coaches. He has over 20 years of practical leadership development experience with executives from more than 50 countries and has designed and delivered executive programs for several international companies. He is also an executive coach with the Global Leadership Centre at INSEAD, one of the world's leading business schools. He is co-designer and convenor of ESMT's yearly Coaching Colloquium, was co-organizer of the International Coaching Research Forum in collaboration with the Institute of Coaching at McLean/Harvard Medical School, and regularly contributes to top academic and practitioner conferences. His current consulting and research interests focus on leadership development, executive coaching, HR management, and leading and coaching teams in tough times. He is co-editor of the new book "Tricky Coaching: Difficult Cases in Leadership Coaching" together with Konstantin Korotov, Manfred Kets de Vries and Elizabeth Florent-Treacy. Francis de Véricourt

Francis de Véricourt is Professor of Management Science and the founding Academic Director of the Institute for Deep Tech Innovation (DEEP) at ESMT Berlin, which promotes translational science and technology innovations, including biotechnology, digital health and artificial intelligence. He also holds the Joachim Faber Chair in Business and Technology, and is the co-author of Framers, a Penguin Random House book listed on Financial Times' Best Books. He lived and worked in France, USA, Germany and Singapore. Francis was the first Associate Dean of Research and holder of the President's Chair at ESMT Berlin, where he also set up the Center for Decisions, Models, and Data. He held faculty positions at Duke University and INSEAD, where he was the Paul Dubrule Chaired professor in Sustainable Development, and was a post-doctoral researcher at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He received a MS degree in applied mathematics and computer science at the Grenoble Institute of Technology as well as a PhD degree from Université Paris VI, France. His general research interest is in the area of decision science, analytics and operations, with applications in health care, sustainability and human-AI interaction. He is the author of numerous academic articles in prominent management, analytics and economics journals such as Management Science, Operations Research, American Economics Review and others. He received several outstanding research awards, including the ENRE and MSOM best publication awards of the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences. He is currently a Department Editor at Operations Research and MSOM. Francis has been the recipient of many teaching awards for delivering classes to MBA and Executive MBA students at ESMT and INSEAD. He has extensive experience in executive education and corporate learning solutions, and is a regular speaker in academic and industry forums.

Jan Hagen is a professor at ESMT and joined ESMT's faculty in 2005. Jan's interest in research is to understand how organizations deal with human errors as well as automation errors, how psychological safety can be established in teams, and how managerial practice can support a culture of learning in organizations. Apart from academic articles and books he published two books that focus on managing errors in organizations: Confronting Mistakes - Lessons from the Aviation Industry when Dealing with Error (Palgrave Macmillan) and How Could This Happen - Managing Errors in Organizations (Palgrave Macmillan). His research has received media coverage in outlets like the BBC, The Economist, Financial Times, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, The Guardian, Forbes, Handelsblatt, Harvard Business Review, Manager Magazin, Spiegel Online, Süddeutsche Zeitung, and The Sunday Times. Jan's personal interest is in interacting with organizations to transfer academic knowledge to management. This particularly applies to his research with high-reliability organizations like the airlines and the military, which has implications for business leaders wanting to create agile, learning organizations. He is the program director for ESMT's Leadership under Pressure executive program and he taught specifically on error and crisis management in courses at Cass Business School, IDC Herzliya, Imperial College London, Saint Paul Business School, Seoul National University, Singapore Management University, and Solvay Brussels School of Economics and Management. His executive education teaching portfolio includes programs for, among others, Allianz, Belgian Air Force, Daimler, Deutsche Bank, EnBW, E.ON, ERSTE Bank Group, European Investment Bank, European Parliament, German Federal Armed Forces, IBM, Lufthansa, Munich Re and Vienna Insurance Group. Jörg Rocholl has been the president of ESMT since July 2011 and the Deutsche Bank professor in sustainable finance since September 2022. He is the chair of the advisory board to the German Federal Ministry of Finance. He is also the chair of the steering committee of the Global Network for Advanced Management (GNAM), a network of 32 leading business schools from around the globe. Rocholl is a research fellow at the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) and a research member at the European Corporate Governance Institute (ECGI). Rocholl joined ESMT in July 2007 as an associate professor and became full professor in July 2010. In September 2010, he was appointed the associate dean of faculty and, in April 2011, dean of faculty. Rocholl holds a PhD in finance and economics and an MPhil from Columbia Business School as well as a "Diplom-Ökonom mit Auszeichnung" (economics degree with distinction) from Witten/Herdecke University in Germany. As a researcher, Rocholl's interests are in sustainable finance, corporate finance, corporate governance, financial intermediation, and central banking. His research has been published in leading academic journals such as the Journal of Finance, the Journal of Financial Economics, and the Review of Financial Studies. It has also been reported in leading international media such as the New York Times, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, Boston Globe, Financial Times, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Handelsblatt, and Börsen-Zeitung. He appears regularly as an expert on ARD, ZDF, Bloomberg TV, and Deutsche Welle. Rocholl is a research professor at the Ifo Institute in Munich, the vice chair of the economic advisory board of Deutsche Welle, a council member of the Virchow Foundation for Global Health, a member of the sustainability advisory council of Deutsche Post DHL Group, and a board member of the Public Governance Institute Germany. He worked with Boston Consulting Group in Frankfurt and London and Deutsche Bank in Frankfurt and New York. He has been a visiting researcher at the Bundesbank Research Center in Frankfurt and was granted the Distinguished CESifo Affiliate Award as well as the Lamfalussy Fellowship and the Duisenberg Fellowship from the European Central Bank (ECB). Rocholl has received several research grants from Columbia Business School, Kenan-Flagler Business School, and the FDIC. His teaching has been recognized with the Weatherspoon Teaching Award at Kenan-Flagler Business School and several ESMT Best Teacher Awards.
