Don earned his associate degree in Applied Science for Architectural Drafting and Design in 1985 from Butler County Community College in Butler, PA. From 2008 to 2012, he continued his education at Temple University in Philadelphia, PA, earning a Pennsylvania Vocational-1 teaching certificate. Prior to Hunter Structural, he worked as a roof, floor truss and engineered wood designer, vocational drafting instructor for Schuylkill Technology Center in Pennsylvania.

H. Gene Hunter

Responsibilities: Structural Design, Analysis, CAD Systems, Project Management and Coordination After earning his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 1982, Gene worked as a senior structural engineer throughout Charlotte. In 1994, he launched his own Charlotte-based company, Hunter Structural. He is licensed to practice structural engineering in 30 states: Alabama, Arkansas, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, West Virginia and Wisconsin. Gene's 35 years of experience includes structural system design of retail, office, institutional, educational, medical and industrial facilities, working with steel, concrete, precast/prestressed concrete, masonry, wood, composite steel and concrete tilt-up. In addition, he is adept with computer design, analysis, and computer aided drafting (AutoCAD) programs.

John D. Haviland

Responsibilities: Structural Design, CAD Systems, Project Management and Coordination, Shop Drawings John brings a comprehensive background in structural, mechanical, and environmental engineering to our firm, as well as skill in computer-aided design (AutoCAD). His experience includes retail, structural retrofitting, churches, and fire stations. Prior to joining Hunter Structural in 2004, he worked as a structural designer for Coggin Carrara and Browning Engineers, Inc. in Charlotte. In 1993, John graduated from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Geography. Six years later, he earned his associate degree in Mechanical Engineering from Blue Ridge Community College in Flat Rock, NC.

Laura C. Hunter

After attending University of North Carolina at Greensboro, Laura started her professional structural drafting career in 1989 and has used AutoCAD since 1991. Her range of experience includes retail, office, institutional, educational, medical and industrial facilities.

Laura LePage

Job Titles:
  • Assistant Office Manager
Responsibilities: Office Management Laura attended the University of North Carolina at Charlotte where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology with a minor in sociology. She joined Hunter Structural in 2018, and her work in the psychiatric industry brings a fresh perspective to our office environment and team dynamics. Through her work experience at the HopeWay Foundation, Carolinas Healthcare, and PENTA Engineering, Laura gained extensive knowledge of office procedures, management, and communication. As she has worked with a wide array of people and personalities, she has quickly become an asset to our firm.

Matthew Dinsmore

Job Titles:
  • Structural Engineer
Responsibilities: Structural Engineering Matthew joined Hunter Structural in 2017 with multiple degrees, honors, and experienced in structural engineering as well as residential construction. He received his Transfer Diploma in Science from Central Piedmont Community College in 2012, followed by a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 2017. In addition to completing Masterbuilder Fellowship internships for the Built Environment, Hand Drafting and Construction, Matthew served as a structural engineering intern for Intelligent Design Engineering in Charlotte. Currently completing his Master of Science in Civil Engineering with concentration on structural engineering, he looks forward to becoming a licensed professional engineer.
