STAND DOWN OF NORTH JERSEY

Stand Down of North Jersey is a 501 C3 Nonprofit New Jersey corporation. This organization is staffed entirely by volunteers with assistance from VA employees and the NJ National Guard, every year we run a one day event to assist homeless and needy Veterans and their Families. The event is held in October and this year's event will be on Saturday, October 10th from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm. It will be held at the John F. Kennedy Recreation Center, 211 West Kinney Street, Newark, NJ... In times of war, combat units were removed from the battlefield to a place of relative security and safety to rest and recuperate. This recovery model inspired Vietnam veterans Robert Van Keuren and Dr. Jon Nachison to develop the first Stand Down in 1988 with the support of Vietnam Veterans of San Diego. Now in its 25th year, this event remains a grassroots, community-based intervention where homeless veterans are brought together in a single location to access community resources and supplies needed to begin..
