GOODWIN ENGINEERING

M.D. Goodwin "Goody" served in the U.S. army corps of engineers during World War II, and was stationed at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas, where he received his initial engineering experience. After the war, Goody went to work for an HVAC company in El Paso, gaining even further experience in HVAC engineering. Prior to the 1950s, MEP engineering in the public sector was conducted in a different manner than it is today. MEP engineering was performed by companies that provided full-service turn-key installations that included design, equipment sales, and construction. When his employer fell on hard times, it gave Goody a couple of drafting boards and drafting supplies instead of his final paycheck. Goody spent his last dime on a train ticket to Austin where he sat for the two 8-hr P.E. engineering exams on back-to-back days.
