Email is a plain-text push technology. The sender can put whatever information they want in it, in plainly-viewable form, and send it unencrypted so that anybody who intercepts it can read it. Some connections between mail servers, and with your mail program, have been getting secured in the last few years. But there's no guarantee that's the case. And the email is still readable by your email company, the equivalent of the "mailman"... Would you like it if your bank took your account statement to the post office and showed it to all the clerks, and maybe even pinned it up on a bulletin board for a day? "Oh look, Joe sure has a BIIIIIG balance on his credit cards!" What if, instead of putting it in a sealed envelope, they then typed it on a postcard and sent it to you?!?... It's outrageous!!! Yet even now, in 2015, companies of all kinds still want to email your sensitive info !!!
