Alden Cadwell

Alden Cadwell is one of the founding chef/consultants for Sustainable Food Systems. Their mission - to help bridge the gap between conventional and sustainable institutional food service - has been at the forefront of societal focus. Some of the clients he has worked with include Concord-Carlisle Public School District, New Haven and Region 4 Public Schools and Miss Porters School in CT, The Park School in MA and The Oakwood Friends and The Darrow Schools in New York. Alden also serves as Food Service Director at Brookline Public Schools and has worked as Food Service Director at Concord-Carlisle Public School District and Chef du Cuisine for Season to Taste Catering, one of the foremost sustainable catering companies in the Boston metropolitan area. Additionally, Alden started the obesity intervention project Let's Get Movin' based at the East Boston Neighborhood Health Center. He collaborated with the community of East Boston to create a program that now serves over 2000 children and their families. The program provides opportunities to be active, learn about nutrition, as well as access to local fresh food at a discount. This is provided through a system of afterschool programs, community gardens and partnerships with local farms. Alden has worked with farmers and institutions to link the two and create local symbiotic relationships between them. His work with schools and institutions paired with the work he has done with the agricultural industry has led him to a career assisting in the improvement of food services and helping those institutions deliver a healthier product for their clients as well as the planet. Alden holds a Master of Science degree from Northeastern University, Boston, MA as well as a BA of Psychology from Augsburg College in Minneapolis, MN. Alden's work with schools, institutions, and the agricultural industry has led him to a career assisting institutions improve their food services by delivering a healthier product for their clients as well as the planet.

Amanda Archibald

Amanda's unique training as an analyst and a nutritionist (RD), combined with her culinary expertise, has enabled her to develop a new lens through which we can understand the food and health conversation.

Ellen Thomas

Ellen's work as a chef, nutritionist and culinary teacher has led her to the central concept that food is medicine, and local, sustainable food is the best medicine.

John Turenne - Founder, President

Mr. Turenne, Founder and President, established Sustainable Food Systems in 2005 to help organizations and institutions implement sustainability practices in food production, service and waste management. Sustainable Food Systems utilizes over 30 years experience in conventional and sustainable food programs to help others understand the global impact of their operational decisions. The SFS Team has paired educational and health care institutions with local agricultural communities to deliver a healthier product for customers, local economies and the planet. Organizations and their customers have grown to understand the benefits of sustainability practices - for themselves, their budget, the community and the planet. John Turenne, FCSI founder and President of Sustainable Food Systems, was one of the lead innovators in sustainable food practices during the creation of the Yale Sustainable Food Project. Realizing the impact of food service decision-making on the world around us, John transformed a conservative university food service model, of which he has 25 years experience, to create a sustainable dining program through careful planning, teaching and development.
