SONYA GRACE TURKMAN

Dr. Turkman received her MA in Interior Design from The Savannah College of Art and Design and her PhD in Art from The University of Georgia. Her dissertation research brought her to Istanbul, Turkey to study the drawings of children in Istanbul. The drawings were analyzed and the content of a focus group of native Turks living in the US to determine the role of culture on the drawing practices of children. From that study Dr. Turkman continues to study how educators teach and learn from their students. Her research has grown to include ways to provide design educators with the framework to integrate Extended Reality platforms into the studio both teaching and learning from those encounters. Dr. Turkman also considers the changing theoretical conceptions of the interior and the influence of technology in the designing of the interior.
