Kona joined the team in December 2020 after being rescued from a life on the streets. She's quickly adapted to life indoors with couches, pillows, and fuzzy blankets. She is our socialite who wants to meet and greet every person and critter she encounters, sometimes quite excitedly, but she's learning and is a smart girl.
Max and Kona both are frequent running partners with Jeanne and get so excited when she pulls out her running gear.
Max joined the team in April 2018 after being rescued as a stray out in the cold. He has been a regular at race events in the Knoxville area. He loves to get pets, cuddles and fuzzy blanket snuggles. He may bark initially, if he's there when you walk in the office, but quickly will switch to a wiggle-butt bringing you his toys and wanting all the petting and love.
Phil is a Knoxville native passionate about both running and the Scruffy City. With nearly two decades of expertise in behavioral and mental health, Coach Phil is not only a licensed trauma specialist but also the esteemed Mindset Coach at Quest Health and Performance. Having earned his certification as an RRCA coach in 2021, he firmly believes in the synergistic relationship between mind and body training.
He became a late-in-life runner in 2019 to support his wife after the birth of their 4th child and unexpectedly fell in love with the sport. He has completed three marathons so far, including a hard-earned 3:47:54 finish at the Detroit Freepress Marathon. Coach Phil finds immense joy in helping runners of all skill levels conquer mental barriers and crush their goals. As the Head Captain of Black Men Run Knoxville, owner of a private clinical mental health practice, and a devoted husband and father of four, he stays on the move serving in the community.
Coach Phil is training to complete his first ultra-marathon at the 2024 Selma to Montgomery 51-mile race - an endeavor deeply significant as it commemorates the historic Selma to Montgomery march, a pivotal moment in the civil rights movement. This historic route witnessed the "Bloody Sunday" tragedy, which happened on his birthday.
