I believe the key to making good products is a healthy mix of collaboration, multiple perspectives, a love of learning, and cats... User experience is often seen as an add-on to a project, rather than an essential part of its creation. Over the years working in consulting and software development, I've found that the best way to get buy-in from stakeholders and team members is to integrate them into the process from the beginning. Doing so creates a smarter design, because the user experience becomes the responsibility of the entire team and not just one person.
