MUSIC DOER
Updated 7 days ago
In 2010, I was asked to be the Brown Paper Tickets' "Music Doer". This was an intimidating proposition, because I had no idea what this would mean... in fact, nobody did. It was a brand new concept, for a new type of business model, "Not Just For Profit". I had done outreach work, for BPT, since about 2006, so they were familiar with my independent music background. They asked if I was interested in doing consulting work for small record labels, as part of a new program they were working on (later known as "The Doer program"). I was excited about the idea, but something didn't quite fit. So, after much thought, I accepted, on the condition that I work with anyone involved with the DIY/independent music world... From day one, I felt at home. The position became a blend of everything I had been doing since about 1984. Seeing that I worked on a pro bono basis, it was easy to greatly expand my existing network, to reach people in ways, I had never imagined possible... Since 2010, I have..
