SCALES OF JUSTICE ACADEMY

The Academy was founded in 2009 by the Honorable La Tia W. Martin, New York State Supreme Court Justice, with recognition that many young women from diverse backgrounds including those from underserved schools are simply not receiving the training and support to make it through the "pipeline" to law school. Justice Martin states, "The benefit of this unique program is to introduce the participants to the legal profession, as well as to teach life skills and core values."... Judges, practicing lawyers, law school professors and other guest speakers will all donate their time to introducing these young women to different legal fields and professions, and to the elements of legal analysis... The lecturers will serve as role models to support the young women as they pursue higher education and professional careers.
