SUNSHINE STAY AT HOME CARE

My father, Robert R. Hilger, and my mom, Jackie Hilger built their first assisted living home in 1990. This home was a tribute to Elsie Marie Hilger, my dad's mother, who passed away from dementia several years prior to the opening. After my grandmother developed Alzheimer's disease, her memory impairment left family members bewildered and with feelings of hopelessness, which are common feelings for anyone experiencing this with a family member. We would often visit my grandmother in an environment that seemed sterile, and felt institutionalized. Many years ago this was unfortunately the norm and thankfully times are continuing to change for the positive. My parents were called to open a home that emulated warmth, acceptance, compassion, teamwork, joy and laughter. It was the beginning for all of us and it was many years ago.
