ANDREW FRASER

Andrew Fraser KC was first called to the Bar in 2008 and took silk in 2023. Andrew has a civil practice and regularly appears as an advocate in applications, trials, appeals and mediations. He has particular expertise in the law of succession and has appeared on a range of estate and trust matters in the District Court, Supreme Court and Court of Appeal in Queensland including provision applications, will construction matters, informal will applications, charitable trust matters and applications by trustees for directions. In 2023, Andrew was named in Doyle's Guide as one of Australia's Leading Junior Counsel for Wills and Estates Litigation. Andrew was one of the Counsel Assisting to the Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability. Christopher is a former President and Life member of the Medico-Legal Society of Queensland, and Chairman of Directors of Barristers Chambers Limited (Inns of Court, North Quay).

GREG SHOEBRIDGE

Greg was called to the Bar in 2008. Prior to his call, Greg was partner of the firm Simonidis Shoebridge Lawyers. As a solicitor, Greg practised in family law exclusively for over 14 years, and was an Accredited Family Law Specialist. Greg has been the editor in chief of the journal, Current Family Law and the family law editor of the journal "Queensland Lawyer". In addition to being an accredited Family Law arbitrator, Greg holds National accreditation as a mediator and is also a Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner for family law matters. Greg has been a member of the executive of the Family Law Practitioners Association of Queensland, and of both the Family Law Committee and the Alternative Dispute Resolution Committees of the Queensland Law Society. He is currently a member of the Family Law Committee of the Bar Association of Queensland. He has presented numerous papers and published in a number of journals including the Australian Family Law Journal.

KAREN OAKLEY

Karen was first called to the Bar in 2012. Prior to coming to the Bar, Karen was admitted as a solicitor in 1995 and worked (both Legal Aid and in the private sector) exclusively in the Family Law jurisdiction in the Australian Capital Territory, New South Wales and Queensland.

Madeleine Murphy

Madeleine Murphy was called to the Queensland Bar in 2018, having been admitted as a solicitor in 2015. She maintains a general practice with a focus on administrative, family law, regulatory and child protection matters. Prior to commencing at the private Bar, Madeleine was a Legal Associate in the Family Court of Australia from 2014 to 2018 working for a number of Judges of both the Trial and Appellate divisions. In doing so she developed a keen awareness of the practices and procedures of the Family Court and was exposed to a vast array of matters. Madeleine also volunteered as a solicitor at the Queensland Public Interest Law Clearing House (as it then was) for a number of years where she gained experience in a number of general civil practice areas including immigration, employment, debt disputes and contract disputes. Madeleine holds a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Queensland.

MARK HEALY

Before being called to the bar in 2004, Mark was a solicitor for 13 years. Having worked many cases over the years his areas of practice are substantial. Mark is a highly regarded lawyer and has represented clients in many aspects of law, namely within the employment sector.

MICHAEL KENT

Michael was admitted as a solicitor in 1983, was called to the Bar in 1991 and took silk in 2007. At the Bar Michael developed an extensive practice primarily in common law, insurance, professional negligence, estate litigation, company law and family law. He also developed a substantial appellate practice. A significant component of his practice was as a mediator in all areas of civil disputes. From 2007 until 2011 Michael was the Queensland Bar representative on the Family Law Section of the Law Council of Australia. He also served as the Chair of the Australian Institute of Family Law Arbitrators and Mediators. In 2011 Michael was appointed as a Judge of the Family Court of Australia. In 2015 Michael was assigned to the Appeal Division of the Court. He served on the Appeal Division until resigning his judicial commissions in 2021. Michael returned to the Bar in 2021 to resume practice in Alternative Dispute Resolution, and has chambers in Brisbane and Sydney.

PHILIP LOONEY

Philip was first called to the Bar in 1996 and took silk in 2012. He has had a diverse practice spanning in Family Law, Tax and Commercial litigation. His current focus is on Family Law and Alternative Dispute Resolution. Philip has been recognised as a leading Queensland Senior Counsel in Doyle's Guide in the area of Family Law since 2015. Prior to coming to the Bar, Philip had a 14 year career as a Chartered Accountant with extensive experience both in Australia and overseas. He practiced mainly in the insolvency, corporate and forensic accounting areas, working mainly for KPMG or its predecessor firms. In addition to being an AIFLAM Specialist Accredited Arbitrator, Philip is a nationally accredited mediator and acts as such in family and commercial disputes. Since December 2021, Philip has been the Queensland Barrister representative member of the Executive of the Family Law Section of the Law Council of Australia. Philip is a member of The Australian Institute of Family Law Arbitrators and Mediators (AIFLAM). He served as its Queensland Board Member in 2020 and 2021 and is currently one of the Family Law Section's representatives on the AIFLAM Board. Philip is a member of 19 Inns Chambers in Brisbane and French Quarter Chambers (FQC) on the Gold Coast.

ROB CUMMING

Rob has been practising as a barrister at the Queensland Bar since May 2017, having been a solicitor for the previous 35 years. Rob specialises in a range of estate, trust and disability law issues. He is well versed in dealing with estate litigation, particularly family provision applications, construction, rectification and cy-près applications and solemn form proceedings. Similarly, he is very experienced in guardianship and administration matters and the special requirements for persons with a legal disability. As a solicitor, Rob successfully achieved Queensland Law Society Specialist Accreditation in Succession Law in 2005 and again in 2013 (being required to requalify after working as a Staff Officer with the Australian Army which included operational deployments to Egypt and Afghanistan). Rob served until the end of 2021 as a member of the Queensland Law Society Succession Law Specialist Accreditation Advisory Committee and until the end of 2019, on the Queensland Law Society Succession Law and Elder Law Committees as well as on the committee of the Queensland Branch of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP). He is now a member of the Succession and Elder Law Committee of the Bar Association of Queensland. Rob has been named as a recommended counsel in Doyle's Guide of Leading Wills & Estates Litigation Junior Counsel - Queensland from 2018 to 2022 (inclusive). At the Bar, Rob principally takes briefs in relation to all aspects of estate litigation and succession law advice, all aspects of guardianship and administration matters in QCAT and the courts, all aspects of applications requiring the Supreme Court to exercise its parens patriae jurisdiction, and general trust advice and litigation. Additionally, he will also act in commissions of inquiry and administrative law matters. Rob was a part time member of the Administrative Appeals Tribunal. He is available as a mediator in relation to estate, trust and disability law disputes.

SARAH MINNERY

Sarah is a Barrister in private practice. She was called to the Bar in July 2013. Prior to joining the Queensland Bar, Sarah worked in national, mid tier and boutique family law firms as a solicitor for over 10 years, including as family law partner.

SIMONE FRASER

Simone has been admitted as a legal practitioner since 2007 and commenced practice at the Bar in 2013. Simone regularly appears in the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia and has experience in High Court leave applications. She practices primarily in the area of family law and is a Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner, a nationally accredited mediator and a nationally accredited family law arbitrator. Prior coming to the Bar, Simone was an Associate to a Justice of the Supreme Court of Queensland. Simone subsequently spent several years working in-house and in private practice as a solicitor. Simone was the recipient of the Vice-Chancellor's Scholarship from Bond University where she completed a Bachelor of Laws with Honours and a Bachelor of International Relations. She also holds an MBA which she completed at the European School of Management, Paris. Between 2018 and 2022 Simone has consistently been named in Doyle's Guide in the following categories: Recommended Family Law Junior Counsel - Queensland; Recommended Family Law Mediator - Brisbane; and Recommended Family Law Junior Counsel for Parenting & Children's Matters - Queensland. SUSAN DOWNES

Susan is admitted as a Barrister of the Supreme Court of Queensland and the High Court of Australia. Susan's early career was in Accounting following her completion of a Bachelor of Commerce with majors in Accounting, Finance and Economics. She later attained her Bachelor of Laws, achieving First Class Honours and was awarded the University Medal. Before being called to the private Bar in 2007, Susan worked with Dibbs Barker Gosling in their Corporate Advisory and Succession Law divisions. She was later appointed a Judge's Associate for His Honour Judge Neil McLauchlan QC, a role she held for two and a half years. Her post graduate studies have included a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice and a Master of Laws. Susan is certified as a Nationally Accredited Mediator and is an accredited Family Law Arbitrator. She regularly mediates family law matters in both parenting and property as well as in Estate Litigation. She is practiced in different styles of mediation including facilitative and evaluative. Susan's focus has been in the area of Family and Estate Law since coming to practice as a Barrister.
