I like to think of myself as the quintessential English Lit major. After graduating high school in England, I moved to Nigeria to reconnect with my place of birth and to complete a Bachelor's degree in English literature at Lagos State University where I also developed an academic foundation in African literature. The experience was a personal journey; I learned to embrace an identity of duality-to be both British and African without feeling a sense of conflict. I returned "home" to England after completing my Bachelor's. However, it was not until I moved to the United States that I returned to pursuing my academic interest. I received my Master's degree from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and my Doctorate from the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, both in English Literature.
