The 20-mile, 345 kV Empire State Line travels through Erie and Niagara counties to enable greater utilization of renewable energy from the Robert Moses Niagara Hydroelectric Power Plant and electricity imports from Ontario, Canada. The line improves electric reliability across the New York state electric grid and supports New York's goal of maximizing the flow of energy from renewable resources in the region. Furthermore, the line allows an additional 3,700 MW of renewable energy to be delivered into New York and provides cost savings for New York utility customers by making the state's electric grid more efficient.
