ARC OF SOUTHINGTON

The Arc of Southington is a leader in the greater Southington community with a mission of educating, empowering, supporting, and advocating for people with disabilities... The Arc of Southington, Inc. is a private, nonprofit organization founded in 1954. As an active local chapter of The Arc, our mission and focus is to serve people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families... The group began with parents sharing their information and experiences raising their children with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and we wanted to be there to support them. Originally known as The Southington Association for Retarded Children, it was later renamed The Southington Association for Retarded Citizens. In 1993 the name was changed to The Arc of Southington to remove the word "retarded" in keeping with the name changes of both The Arc of CT and The Arc of the United States.
