LOUISA SULLIVAN CONTEMPORARY GLASS

My exploration into fused glass started seven years ago, following an education in fine art and many community art projects in Manchester and London. It started with a short course at St Martin's College - little did I know then that it would ignite my passion and take over my working life!... Fine art is still hugely relevant to my work today; the start of a design always begins with a drawing. Each design layer is refined, redrawn and colour added, then the fun starts! There are so many methods and techniques used in fused glass it is mind-boggling at first " trial and error is an essential part of the progress. Prior to glass fusion, I have experimented with enamels to achieve a crisp opaque line in screen print or a painterly appearance with lino print, using top quality glass materials... Designs are incorporated into tableware and a range of sculptures. I believe that functional pieces deserve equal attention, becoming artistic pieces in their own right.
