Our lab focuses on the mechanisms that cells use to recognize and dispose of misfolded proteins within their organelles and these processes are remarkably conserved among eukaryotes. We use Saccharomyces cerevisiae as a model system because of its simplicity relative to "higher" eukaryotes, but in certain cases our questions allow us to work in mammalian tissue culture systems.
