Andrew Kelly served as Director of Bristol Ideas 1993-2022. During that period, he has been involved in leading and working on many projects in Bristol. These include the cultural renewal of Bristol Harbourside and the founding of We the Curious science centre; Bristol Legible City; Brunel200; Bristol2008- the city's bid to be European Capital of Culture; the annual Bristol Great Reading Adventure; and - in 2014 - Bristol's programme marking 100 years since the start of the First World War, the largest UK programme of its kind outside London.
He is a visiting professor at the University of the West of England and has published 15 books on subjects ranging from film and cinema history to Brunel and engineering, the future of cities and 100 years of Bristol aerospace. On stepping down as director in April 2022, Andrew spends three days each work working on Bristol Ideas projects as well as book writing. Biography
Dennis' research interests include political decision-making, administrative leadership, institutional memory, and the role of political rhetoric in public policy. Recent books include his monograph ‘Megaphone Bureaucracy‘, published by Princeton University Press in 2019, and a 2021 book Comparing the traditions of cabinet government across five countries (written with co-authors Professor Patrick Weller and Professor Rod Rhodes and published by Oxford University Press). His latest book, Why Governments Get It Wrong?, is now out in paperback.

Dimitri Zenghelis is a Senior Visiting Fellow at the Grantham Research Institute at the LSE where, from 2013-2017, he was Head of Climate Policy. In 2014 he was Acting Chief Economist for the Global Commission on the Economy and Climate (a.k.a The New Climate Economy). He was recently Senior Economic Advisor to Cisco's long-term innovation group and an Associate Fellow at the Royal Institute of International Affairs, Chatham House. Previously, he headed the Stern Review Team at the Office of Climate Change, London, and was a lead author on the Stern Review on the Economics of Climate Change, commissioned by the then Chancellor Gordon Brown. Before working on climate change, Dimitri was at HM Treasury including four years as Head of Economic Forecasting where he provided regular briefings to the Chancellor Gordon Brown and Prime Minister Tony Blair. He currently advises the Mayor of London and the UK Committee on Climate Change.
Dr Aleksei Turobov is a Research Associate working on the AIxGeo project at the Bennett Institute for Public Policy.
His research centres around the nexus of AI policy, politics, and the interconnection between ‘security' and ‘digital', with a focus on the social and political effects and impacts. Additionally, he is interested in evaluating the UK's attempt at securitising Artificial Intelligence (and the contradiction between technology regulation and security regulation) using machine learning.
He was previously a Postdoctoral Fellow in Cybersecurity and Technology Policy at Northumbria University, where he explored how the digital sovereignty narrative shapes and influences UK politics in the face of geopolitical tensions and post-Brexit challenges.
Aleksei holds a doctoral degree in Political Sciences from HSE University, Russia, where he developed his thesis on security transformation under the influence of digitalisation and automation technologies (notably Artificial Intelligence).

Andres Roman-Urrestarazu, MD, PhD, MSc, is a 2021-22 UK Harkness Fellow in Health Care Policy and Practice. He is a psychiatrist, public health clinician, and Senior Research Associate at the University of Cambridge. He is 2021-2022 Harkness Fellow in Health Policy and Practice based at Stanford University and is also Senior Research Associate in the Department of Psychiatry University of Cambridge, Assistant Professor at Maastricht University and an Honorary Consultant Clinical Academic Staff at Public Health England.
Andres was previously a Gillings Fellow in Global Public Health (2016-2020). Dimitrios is a Research Associate with a background in architecture and urban planning. His research at the Bennett Institute centers on developing innovative frameworks for measuring social and cultural infrastructure to provide policymakers with actionable insights for enhancing community wellbeing.
Dimitrios was previously a Research Associate, Fellow and Lecturer (HPL) at The Bartlett School of Planning, UCL where his research and teaching focused on local and regional development and socio-economic sustainability of ‘left-behind places'.
His work is at the forefront of policy research and strategic planning, addressing themes such as urban transformation, ‘levelling up', the vitality of social infrastructure and participatory democracy in England and internationally.
