Ms. Sonya Guerra

Ms. Sonya Guerra is in her seventh year as choral director at Dickerson. Prior to her arrival here, Ms. Guerra was the choral director at Westside Middle School in Barrow County. Under her direction, Dickerson Chorus continues to grow each year, consistantly earns Superior ratings at assessment, is involved heavily in the community, and travels both in and out of the state. Ms. Guerra completed her Masters degree in Music Education at Florida State University. Go Noles! She is also a graduate of the James Madison University School of Music, located in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley in Virginia. She graduated cum laude with her Bachelors degree in Vocal Music Education. Ms. Guerra is a member of NAfME and ACDA, and an alumna of Sigma Alpha Iota. She is co-organizer of the choral Large Group Performance Evaluation (LGPE) for District 12 in Georgia. Ms. Guerra also gives private voice and piano lessons. Ms. Guerra was born in the great city of Chicago, and though she has moved a lot, she still considers the Windy City home. Ms. Guerra moved to Georgia in the summer of 2013, and she loves living in the South. Outside of her involvement with school choirs, Ms. Guerra has participated in select travel choirs, local honor and all-state choirs, solo performances, and a cappella quartets. It was actually Ms. Guerra's own middle school chorus teacher who inspired her to follow the same path. Ms. Guerra was and still is involved in theatre, which has taken her to different states and even to London to perform. In her free time, Ms. Guerra likes doing anything outside, traveling, and exploring new coffee shops.
