This web-based research platform was developed beginning in 2017 as part of the Enhanced resolution for 3DEM analysis of synapses across brain regions and taxa project led by Professor Kristen Harris at the University of Texas-Austin, James Carson at the Texas Advanced Computing Center, and Terry Sejnowski at The Salk Institute for Biological Studies. This project is funded by the National Science Foundation (DBI-1707356) as part of the Next Generation Network for Neuroscience (NeuroNex) program. 3DEM.org is focused on supporting and disseminating new technologies for enhanced resolution 3-dimensional electron microscopy (3DEM). By integrating this new data collection technology with public high performance computing, we leverage additional computational power to process even larger datasets, and to promote reproducibility and sharing of techniques.
