Chloe Waters

Job Titles:

Chloe joined Constable VAT Consultancy in 2020 after completing her A levels at The Sixth Form College Colchester. She has always been interested in tax and accountancy and therefore decided to start a professional apprenticeship role soon after completing her A level examinations. Chloe has successfully completed the ATT's foundation in VAT compliance and is now studying to become a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation. Outside of work, Chloe enjoys taking part in dance classes to keep fit and healthy.

Dean Carey

Job Titles:

Dean worked for HMRC in the finance specialist team of the City of London VAT Office before moving to the private sector where he worked for Moore Stephens prior to joining Deloitte. During his time with Deloitte, Dean was sector leader of the Land & property, Education and Corporate Finance VAT teams in their London office and acted for a number of large insurance businesses and banks. As a founding partner with Constable VAT, Dean has continued to work in these areas. Dean's clients range in size from large multi-national businesses to SMEs and his work with Constable VAT covers most business sectors. Dean is known as a pragmatic, commercially focused problem solver. He has a particular talent for logical analysis. He often sees solutions which others have missed and which require no more than a persuasive technical argument to succeed. Dean is a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation and sits on the tax committee of the ACCA and the Joint VAT Consultative Committee (JVCC), the forum for high level policy decisions between HMRC and professional and industry representative bodies. In his spare time, Dean enjoys watching football and is a season ticket holder at Norwich City. He also enjoys fishing, but rarely catches anything!

Georgina Clover

Georgina rejoined Constable VAT as office manager in 2019, having previously worked with the firm as an admin assistant. Georgina is often the first point of contact for new clients and is responsible for the smooth running of the office, including all accounts matters. Georgina has recently completed her Advanced Certificate in Bookkeeping (Level 3), and is now an associate member of AAT with AATQB status. In her spare time, Georgina enjoys spending time with family and friends, and walking her dog.

Helen Carey

Helen joined HMRC in the City VAT Office in 1986. While with HMRC Helen spent time as a VAT inspector auditing small to medium sized businesses and also large multi-nationals. Helen left HMRC to join KPMG's Social Economy Team in 1996, working with universities and colleges, housing associations and charities, before moving on to HLB Kidsons, subsequently Baker Tilly. Helen works with several large businesses providing an alternative to in-house VAT support and she also enjoys working with accountants and solicitors, helping them find solutions to their clients' problems. An accredited mediator, Helen is well qualified to assist clients in dispute with HMRC. In her spare time Helen enjoys running, cycling and walking her dogs.

Krisztian Santa

Krisztian joined Constable VAT Consultancy in August 2019, a couple of months after completing his A-Level examinations at the Colchester Sixth Form College. Krisztian's hard work was reflected in his desired results. Krisztian always had an interest towards the finance industry and therefore made the decision to seek a professional role with Constable VAT straight after completing his A-Levels. Since starting his apprenticeship at Constable VAT, Krisztian has passed his ATT and CTA exams and is now a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation.

Laura Krickova

Laura joined Constable VAT Consultancy in 2008 and qualified as a Chartered Tax Adviser with the Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT) in 2011. Working with a broad spectrum of businesses, ranging from sole practitioners to large multinationals, as well as charities and not-for profit organisations, has broadened her professional experience and given Laura exposure to a wide range of different VAT issues across industry sectors. Laura became a partner in April 2020 and advises on all aspects of VAT, with a particular interest in land and property, as well as working with accountants and solicitors, utilising her experience to provide practical solutions to their clients' problems. Laura has represented clients at both the First Tier Tax Tribunal and through Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) with HMRC. Laura oversees Constable VAT's VAT Focus on Land and Property and has also written VAT articles for external publications including Civil Society and Charity Finance. Away from the office Laura enjoys travelling and long dog walks in the countryside.

Robert Thorpe

Robert joined HMRC as a VAT Inspector in 2004, completing both its formal VAT Officer training and the more advanced Legal and Technical qualification. Robert spent four years visiting a wide range of small and medium sized businesses gaining a valuable insight into HMRC's systems, approach and methodology. In 2008 Robert left HMRC to become a VAT manager with a large regional firm of accountants before joining Constable VAT Consultancy in 2012. Robert became a partner at Constable VAT in 2016. Robert enjoys dealing with a wide range of clients and has particular interests in the insurance sector, agent / principal business structures and construction liability.

Sophie Cox

Sophie joined Constable VAT Consultancy in February 2012 after graduating from the University of Essex. Since joining Constable VAT Sophie has successfully completed her ATT and CTA exams. Sophie is now a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation and has also completed a Masters in Business Administration (MBA), which she studied whilst working full-time. Sophie is particularly interested in VAT as it applies to insurance, charities and education and assists many of our larger clients operating in these sectors with preparing and checking their very complex VAT returns and partial exemption calculations and answering ad hoc questions they may have. Sophie regularly contributes to Constable VAT's newsletters including the VAT Newsletter for Charities. Sophie has also written VAT articles for external publications including Civil Society and Charity Finance. Outside of work Sophie enjoys watching Formula 1 motor racing.

Stewart Henry

Stewart worked for HMRC for almost 10 years, leaving to join Hays Allan in 1994. In 1997 Stewart moved to Saffery Champness, where he specialised in advising charities and voluntary sector organisations. Stewart was involved in taking a number of leading cases through the tribunal and court system, delivering significant VAT savings for clients. Immediately prior to joining Constable VAT Consultancy as a partner in 2006, Stewart was VAT Director for Baker Tilly, East Anglia. Stewart has continued to advise our charity and not-for-profit clients on a wide range of VAT issues impacting upon their activities and VAT recoveries. Stewart has many years experience advising charity clients on a wide-range of VAT issues across a large number of organisations operating in the sector. Recently, Stewart advised Greenisland Football Club in both its First Tier and Upper Tier Tribunal hearings. Stewart is a supporter of local organisations and he has a particular interest in grass roots football, focusing on the positive benefits the sport brings participating at all levels of the game.
