This means our oncologist has completed additional training and certification beyond veterinary school, similar to the path a physician takes to become a human specialist. Only those veterinarians who have successfully completed an AVMA-accredited residency program, published original research, and passed a series of rigorous examinations in their area of expertise, can call themselves specialists. Veterinary Medical Oncologists are board-certified, also known as Diplomates, through the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM). Because of this, we do not handle routine preventive care such as vaccinations or spay/neuter procedures. Your pet's primary care veterinarian is best qualified to handle the day-to-day general wellness of your pet. In most cases, your pet's regular veterinarian will refer you to a specialist if they suspect or have diagnosed your pet with cancer. We work together, giving your pet the best chance at a longer, healthier life... At Animal Cancer..
